Looking forward to follow-ups from our 2 Owners!
Follow Ups:
Any other owners in 2018?
I could use a review from Frank I.
Frank I-
where is your review???
Hopefully this spinner will gain more owners after Frank I 's review.
OP-
follow ups and the review per Frank I.
I sure hope Frank I keeps his schedule for the October review of this spinner?
Any follow-ups SA-10 owners?
Fantja : Forget expensive stereo only Marantz SA-10, I am listening to the incredible Sony UBP-X800 mch SACD/CD 4K BD spinner sounds virtually same as Sony XA-5400ES may be even slightly better with mch SACD excellent & only $300. Unless you already have one, you will need a AVR, I recommend Marantz SR-6011 use pre-out into stereo amp for front speakers for best sound. 6011 uses same HDAMS that are in the reference SA-10.

Much Thanks-Disbeliever. I am a 2-channel guy. I do not own an AVR.
Fantja: , I will be very suprised if you end up buying a Marantz SA-10.

I will certainly consider, provided, that Marantz will keep up the after sale parts/service over the long term.
I have found Marantz Customer Support in UK very good, no interest in purchasing their latest reference products, however I like to read the various reviews.I have been listening to my XA5400ES it does sound better than the still very good value Sony UBP-X800 which may improve after 100 hour burn-in, I only played it for approx 8 hours, excellent with 4K BD discs.

Any others owners of this spinner?
Like Sony, Marantz was the other early adopter of the SACD medium.
Those guys designed and built spinners to compete w/ the Sony ES models over the years.
I could use another review- Frank I ?
I don't really post in forums d/t lack of time (though I do read them) but I'm making this exception due to also being very interested in the Marantz SA-10 and reading avidly everything posted about it.
Peeps do seem to be critical of it perhaps because, maybe, it's too daring of Marantz to charge such a hefty price or because it isn't multichannel or, perhaps, some feel that disc spinners are obsolete but I wanna recap a few things that some people seem to forget which, taken in their entirety, do make this $7k piece a sort of a bargain.
1) No DAC chip. This is big. Done by EMM Labs DA2, Bricasti M12, Lampizator and PS Audio, DSD is converted directly to analog via filtering in the analog domain. Supposed to be the purest way of handling DSD.
Every time I upsample to DSD256 in JRiver and decode via Sabre chip in my Simaudio Moon Neo DAC music sounds clearly better to my ears, even if I start with an MP3 file. My new preamp, with its newly added level of see through, transparency and "meat on bones" makes such a comparison easy.
And this Marantz is said to do the up sampling in hardware to DSD256 and then decode to analog without a chip, in the purest way.I think (and I might be wrong) that Bricasti and Lampi force you to upsample in software while the EMM and PS audio do the upsampling in hardware.
When peeps talk about "house sound" and how this Marantz compares to other Marantz players I don't think they realize that all the older Marantz players use DAC chips and this one doesn't, though the discrete class A analog out might be the same.
2) It's a USB DAC primarily before anything else. Best USB DACs do tend to be expensive
3) You can burn data DVD discs with .dsf files and play them back on the SA10
4) You can plug a USB memory stick in the back and play the files on it, this was made popular by the Resonessence Labs Invicta via their SD card slot
Being a stereo only player is a plus in my book.
Taking everything mentioned above into account shows that the SA10 is really the cheapest solution for what it is and what it does.
SA 10 in my opinion belongs in a more elevated company than its price would suggest and comparing it with SACD players from Sony, Oppo and Marantz itself would not put the SA10 in any difficult position.
Now I just need someone to compare the SA10 with the Bricasti M12, EMM Labs DA2, Lampizator Atlantis, PS Audio DS DAC and DS Memory Player combo and see where it stands. And with some of the better chip DACs out there, case in point being Ayre Q5. That would be interesting.
Regards,
an audiophile and music lover, not necessarily in that order
romandoc-
did you get an audition w/ the SA-10 ?
Thanks! for sharing- romandoc
Seems no else wants to post a follow up review on the SA-10, not that it matters as hiredfox one is good enough.

Frank I - review will drop in October.
hiredfox did a very fine review. One, could never be enough for me...
The Hi News review was very positive.
It's also a Disc player, up sampling everything to DSD256.
I have a Lampizator Euforia, entry level.
Not nearly as good as Sony HAP Z1, but the more expensive Lampi's are undoubtably better.
I wish I could afford it. Actually, I could if iIhadn't wasted money on other items...
Thanks! for sharing-
I will be getting a review sample shortly.
Whom do you write under- Frank I ?
Headphone.Guru is my website. We do 125 reviews a year.
Frank I- where is your review? It is November...
Frank I- could not find your review of the SA-10?
Hired Fox has revealed all you need to know about the SA-10
if/when you guys get a demo- give a shout-out to your dealer/retailer.
still looking forward to Frank I, review.
Thanks! for sharing-
Frank I- list the cd / sacd titles that you are auditioning w/ the SA-10.
I will look into it- Frank I.
let me know when your review is posted and how to find it?
Headphone.Guru
Reviewing under false names was stopped in the UK a long time ago . e.g FM Hughes = Martin Colloms, Adrian Hope = Barry Fox etc.
My website publishes over 125 review annually I am the editor and we have 10 contributors.
Excellent- Frank I.
The SA10 showed up today. It was a show demo so it ashould not need much time for me to get time on it.
Looking forward to your review- Frank I
Thanks!- Disbeliever, I was referring to the Publication or Webzine.
Beware of Fake News is all I will say at the moment.
Units already for sale used, no reviews online or here.
The magazine review cited described it as on the Cool side of Neutral, don't think that would appeal to me ( not that I can afford it anyway).
I was hoping it would be the greatest thing since the last big thing.
With the Oppo BDP-205 coming out next month, I wonder how much better the Marantz sound would be. And I understand that the Oppo will not have any apps, so it is a stripped down version, which is good for music only. I hope they have a tablet app to control the interface though.
plays data discs, and is a DAC, all at 4x DSD.
Whether it sounds good, I don't know.
It not a warm sounding unit but man I am amazed at what I been hearing so far with sacd and cd.
I saw an ad in Audiogon today. Someone is selling theirs for $5.3k.
I guess I am no longer an audiophile. I have a Marantz Sa11 s1.Never bought an upgraded version and am happy with it. same goes for my speakers Infinty
RS II, power amp Acurus A 250, Yamaha px-3 TT ,Yamaha cx-2 preamp.I just enjoy what I have,
Correct, you are not an audiophile anymore. You are a music lover and that is the ultimate goal in this hobby. Enjoy your music!

would buy one sound-unheard without a safety-net return policy.
$7000 down the tubes if you're stuck with it.
I don't expect any buyers at the used price...
Call me crazy, but I ordered one last week, I was one of the 1st to purchase a Sony SCD-1 and still have it.
Enjoy and post your impressions.
No surprise to me

Yep, (already) there is one for sale on the 'Gon. Strange?
I have a friend who does the same thing with expensive cameras and lenses.
You think the bottom is coming out of the audio business? Try photography!
Still this guy seems to know how do do it as he's buying something new about every week and selling something else to pay for it. Buying mostly from B&H in New York but spending hours trying to low-ball local dealers (those still in business) as well.
Sells on Ebay for about 75% to 85% what he paid and calls it renting camera gear. His camera spend each year exceeds my audio spend but I got a storage room full of used gear.
I WIN!!!
Let's hear the reviews!
