Denon DVD-2910?Google helped with the 3910, the 1910 & 1710 - but zip on the 2910...
Follow Ups:
according to http://www.avbuzz.com/eq/3910/3910a.htm (on the comparison table at the bottom )Wonder how the new 3910 sounds. Seriously considering it.
Muchos thanks for this - now I know I have to go for the DV-3910 because it's DAC doesn't have an un-bypassable opamp built into it as does the 2910's DAC - and I really HATE opamps I can't pull out of the signalpath!> Wonder how the new 3910 sounds. Seriously considering it <
Should be able to tell you soon - a shop downtown has a good price...
I believe someone there picked up one of these players over the weekend.
Hi Allen,Sorry, I don't know of a source for those service manuals, but I did want to point out the fact that some people will opt to purchase the 3910 for i.Link/IEEE1394 or Denon Link. I don't believe that Denon Link can pass SACD at the current moment, however. The reason I bring this up is that when using i.Link, the player's internal processors for audio, DACs and analog stages will be bypassed.
Personally, I think it is silly to purchase a player with AD SHARC processors and BB DSD-1796 DACs (in the 3910) and choose not to use them. I also agree with you that the fewer, or NO, op amps the better. As for that huge empty space in the front left corner of the unit, well, it looks to be a great spot for a new and larger power supply. I look forward to your thoughts of the stock unit and what your mods will entail.
for audio, DACs and analog stages will be bypassed <Yes, and replaced with equally inadequate (IMO) stuff in the big complex HT receiver.

Agreed.
> I also agree with you that the fewer, or NO, op amps the better <That's a no-brainer!!

Maybe. Ed Meitner (who's gear gets pretty good reviews) is 100% enthusiastic about switched mode power supplies and once shared a key trick with me about how to make them work in such an environment.

I will report on my findings, for sure.
But still looking for a manual source...

The tranny in this thing looks tiny:

According to Denon's leaflet, it has 3 power supply units.
Not sure if they use 3 seperate transformers.I am seriously considering it because it seems to be the most reasonably priced universal player in the market that has a reasonably good build (9kgs), HDCD decoding and firewire. I would prefer a headphone out and an extra pair of stereo out although. Can't find any at that price range with easy availablity in my country.

"The power section has been given in a discrete design as well, with separate power units provided for the audio block, video block, and digital block, ensuring a clean, stable supply of power to all circuits. Interference among the circuits is thus thoroughly suppressed to produce high-grade playback with minimal noise."
In comparison, the Onkyo SP1000 has got transformer power supply and much heavier.
Size isn't everything, but ...

.
Marantz have a similarly spec'd model (SA-11s1) coming out. Maybe they have an agreement not to step on each other's toes at the high end.

,
Admittedly, a more up-market player ... but it only does 2 channels, no video etc.

See if this helps....
