Let myself introduce...myself. I'm a sucker for women vocalists and I'm looking for some new artists. My tastes run from Liz Frasier to Harriet Wheeler to Kristy Thirsk.

Peggy Lee. Look under Jazz.If you have seen the Disney movie Lady and the Tramp you have already heard her stuff. She does "He's a Tramp" and that siamese cat song (both cats).
Lana Lane Has a great voice, Heart like many say.
Most if not all have her husband Erik Norlander
on keys.

I've always really enjoyed this album. Haven't heard any of her other stuff but this one is very nice electronica. Good review at AMG .
Methinks that that should be purchased on the cover alone!!
Lots of naughty innuendo. My favorite...The Long Tunnel of Wanting You.I believe all of the songs are inspired by a female poet. I can't recall her name now.
PortisheadBeth Orton
Dot Allison (used to be the singer for a band called One Dove) <-- Got a signed copy of one of her CD's off Ebay ;-)
I'm really enjoying the new Cowboy Junkies. Especially the EP that was available as a freebee with the new album.
I second the Lisa Gerrard / DCD recommendations.
Lisa Shaw on Naked Music, - try Carte Blanche 3 or Nude Dimensions 2.Check out Lisa Gerrard: it is doubtful that you have not heard of her. She was co-collaborator for Dead Can Dance and most recently the Gladiator, Whalerider, Black Hawk Down, the Insider, and many other Soundtracks.... My fav solo record is the Mirror Pool. Dead Can Dance's live record, - Toward the Within is also a great introduction to this amazing woman.
Also, - Natacha Atlas, - an amazing Egyptian singer.
Finally, - Gigi. I'm really into Illuminated Audio lately....
Cheers,
is this the real me, or a mere facsimile?

Hey Sordidman
do you have a soft spot for the Cocteau Twins as well ?
I guess that I'm a pretty big 4AD, - we solicited that label too hard back in the day: would've loved to been a part of their team...The Cocteaus got a little bit too repetitive and one dimensional, - IMO only. I was all wound up a bands that had a bit more agression...
:-)
Cheers,
The CT used to be a bit more aggressive - like in Treasure or Blue Bell Knoll & then you had the others - like Victorialand.A true story - I bought Victorialand in about 86 or something & it was the chill out disc. I moved to france & made some friends who were into music - Pascal had a copy. We had a listen & I noticed for the first time that you're supposed to play it at 45. I asked Pascal & he had always played the thing at 33 as well !
I still play that record at 33, though I reckon that the right speed for it is somewhere in between....
Sordidman,Do you have the box set from them that was released a whie back?
Worth it alone for the DVD of Towards the Within. Previously that was only available on VHS. I do not believe it is available outside of the box set.
The box set also includes some early demos as well as the only completed song from what was to be the follow up to Spiritchaser.
It is amazing to me, that band.To me, - just my dumb opinion, - those two were tapped deep down into something special. I regard them as being similar to Joy Division, - in that they were nearly outside music altogether. On some level, - people might regard the two bands as being similar anyway.
The fact that those two broke up is so very sad to me....

Get one of those $50 Toshiba 3950's or 3960's that everyone raves about on the Digital forum. Believe it or not, prior to watching the DVD I never really knew what Lisa looked like. They have some good interviews with her where she describes her singing style, etc.
