I've been using the Schiit Magni 3 for awhile now and it sounds pretty good, but it has a slight channel imbalance, does not have a remote, and I feel like there has to be better headphone amp/ preamps out there.
The one I have been looking at for awhile is the Audio-GD NFB-1AMP. I like the resistor/ relay based volume control and it has pretty solid reviews. Also tempted to move up the Audio-GD line to the Master 19 or even the Master 9.
Does anyone have experience with any of these or be able to suggest other >$1500 options that are good at driving headphones and also make a good preamp?
Follow Ups:
You did ask for DACs that are greater than $1,500. It retails for $2,200.
It even comes with a built-in phono stage. I've heard that the headphone output is quite decent once it's broken in. I use it only as a DAC, but the preamp is pretty good too. Comes with a remote.

Have a look at the RME ADI 2fs. GREAT reviews german engineered mfg. in Thailand.
I would consider the Headamp GSX Mini. It's a powerful headphone amp and it can be used as a preamp. Nice looking too.

I Have been happy with my Hafler. Should drive most headphones and be a good pre too. There are some other nice features too.
Here is the version that includes a usb dac.

now this is an upgrade. plenty of power with extremely low distortion PLUS a very capable dac. check out zreviews review of it. the thx tech is top notch, the same as in the benchmark amp.
