Hi guys . I'm on the market to buy something that I would be able to connect to my existing system and be able to listen to my system with my Headphones . Something like a benchmark or a grace m902 . The problem is that I can't afford a 2 or 3 benchmark . Even used they sell for over a grand . Even a benchmark 1 hdr is at 800.00 at Ebay.
I am not a headphone freak , always used speaker for music listening till my daughter gave me for Christmas a HiFiMan planar headphone . Now that really rocked my world so much that much of my listening now is done with my planar headphone , and mind you , my audio system is comprised of Magnepan MG12 with completely updated crossover . But the hifiman are so musically enchanting that I can't even analyze the sound I just drift away with the music . These things are addictive in a big way .
My main problem is volume. I have 2 smartphones , 3 tablets and 2 laptops and with all I get different volumes but none enough to the levels I want .So I know I need a headphone amp . But I would like a headphone amp that might have a good dac to bypass the aging dacs in my cd players plus I would like it to have the connectivity to my main system so that I could listen to my turntable connecting my existing preamp to the unit desired .
So , to resume it all I need a good headphone amplifier with a updated dac plus the functionality of a preamp , just like a benchmark , just not a outdated benchmark as the first ones that came out . And under 1 grand . Any thoughts or suggestions?

Schiit has several headphone amps that can have either a conventional or multibit DAC card added. Then all you have to do is connect the unit by IC to a line out on your preamp if you want to integrate into your present system.
Schiit has some dac/headphone amp/preamp models that would fit your budget.
I have their original Bifrost DAC and just got the little Modi 3 DAC for desktop use with a Stax system.
Cool man. I am a maggie guy and have been into headphones for the last 2-3 years. I have the monoprice planar and was looking at the Hifiman Anandas. Good to know you dig the Hifiman.
Couple of questions.
What do you want to hook up to the dac/ amp? I heard cdp and turntable. Is that it?
What do you have now as equipment?
Do you plan to hook up a computer and do you see yourself doing high res?
Do you buy from mass drop?
Which Hifimans do you have?
How old is your daughter?
Are there brands you dig or want to avoid?

Well , my system has as you already know Maggie MG12 , preamp is a PSAudio 5.0 with modified power supply , Opera Audio Turandot CD Player and project turntable w Ortofon MC cartridge . I have considered using my laptop to stream high resolution files so the unit as I understand it should have USB input. The Headphones are the HE 400 i.
Its pedestrian to just recommend the gear you have but hey if it works. This is what I have but it has a dac and damn now its like $150 less than before and the same price for what the amp alone cost me. :(
Full discrete circuitry and I dig the focus feature and can't live without that myself. Multiple outputs for 2 pairs of cans. Even a tube.
