I am after a pair of IEMs for portable music. Majority of music listened to is classical. I was thinking of Etymotic ER4XRs but for a similar (UK) price there is the Shure SE535.
IEMs for small size (so I can carry them around in a pocket to be used on a whim) and superior ambient noise suppresion.
I prefer the ergonomics of the Shures as the Ety's just stick out ffrom your ears and I can't image using them in bed, for example, where any idea of turning onto one side is impractical. Also the Ety's have a reputation for having a shallow and narrow soundstage which is not ideal for classical (just my view).
So, comments please.

I have no experience with the Etymotic IEMs, but I can speak for the SE535s which I've owned for ~3 years. They are an excellent portable choice and can be driven directly from an iPhone (I currently have the 6S). Fit is extremely comfortable (I use the black foam tips), noise isolation is excellent and the sound signature is very conducive to classical music (accurate, not overly-analytical, not prone to extended-listening fatigue).
I've previously owned the Shure E3s...the SE535s are better in all described terms.
Highly recommended.
Thanks for your very helpful comments.

Pete
I have a pair of the Ety ER4- something or other. They are really nice but I find that the cord does a lot of sound piping unless I switch the sides and put the cord over my ears (left side in right ear and vice versa). The are more comfortable that way and sound better pointing up.
I used to have a pair of the old Shure E3C which broke after about 10 years of use. They sounded very similar to the Etymotics. Both are/were enjoyable. I do miss the old Shures I had as they fit better in my ear and the cord was sturdier. On mine, the plastic snorkel on one side sheared off one day. Still, I am perfectly happy with the Ety and find them very comfortable, even in bed.
