Had to pay some bills. I sold them for about twice the amount I paid for them several years ago but such a fact does not make one feel better. A nice pair of Stax 009s powered by a Blue Hawaii amp might make me feel better, but I know that's not going to happen any time soon.. Sniff, sniff...

I sold my K1000 with no regrets at all. A good 'stat from proper 'stat amp is far better IME.
As far as Stax SR009, I still am undecided on it. I have now listened to them intently, with my own demo disc, on 5 or 6 different setups, all with high quality amps, and I am just not getting that "I must have it" feeling, kind of like how I feel about Senn HD800.
... you tend to remain one. I've read about people who prefer K1000s to 'stats but I've never heard a pair of 'stats myself so I can only wonder. So, you prefer the 009? What do you think about the 007?

Sounding like spy names. Big issue with most 'stats is their sound is largely defined by the amps, which have a tough time driving something like the 007, which I own. I can tune my system to accomplish amazing things on several fronts but can never have everything going all at once.
009 is easier to drive than 007, yet it still has some particular requirements out of amps, i.e. squeezing out bloom and musicality without losing that amazing control.
I am also partial to the old Senn 'stats Orpheus and Baby Orpheus, which are certainly flawed in terms of dynamic accuracy but do possess the magic.
IME, for me personally any of the 'stats above on their bad day is still preferable to the latest dynamic 'phones on their best day.
Some say the Cavalli Liquid Lightning headamp brings out the very best for the sr-009 and sr-007
What do you think of the amps made by Stax for Stax headphones?

None of the current Stax amps are capable of driving 007 to their full dynamic potential, and while some of the Stax amps do sound quite nice driving less-demanding 'stats, there are others that sound better from 3rd party. A vintage Stax T2 amp, fully brought up with modern parts, on the other hand, is another matter but a $$$$ proposition.
Truly strange guys, those engineers at Stax.

MBNX sold his stax stuff so not always true
great thing you can always buy them again for what you got but there are also other options.. I have settled my desire to sell or buy any more headphones and my system is pretty set. I have the Hd800 doing all I could want or need plus some very nice closed cans. Sold y V200 to MBNX to buy a Nikon 5100 which I love and needed for my daughter college track meets starting in the fall. So you can always get that next toy when funds permit again. I am pretty much done with gear now until real estate gets better and get a smaller house with a dedicated room for 2 channel again but the cans I have are my final ones and also my amps I am totally satisfied with. I would like to get some big Maggies down the road like the 1.7 or 3.7 if I had a big enough room.
