I'm feeling you ... went through it 4 years ago
kept the CD's though ... great looking room, you'll probably get homesick
y'know, a near field set up can be satisfying
but headphones & a near field sub-woofer can be a revelation!
due to remodeling my Slee Solo still isn't unpacked yet ... but soon!
good luck
Follow Ups:
Thanks! I did copy a couple hundred CDs onto a portable hard drive that my Oppo, that I kept, can play from. I'm going to have a room in the new place, I know it's small but I won't know how small until we close in late November. I'll have to look into the Slee and also investigate near-field subs, this is new to me.
the price of entry doesn't have to be high, and though I don't post there I read it, and the AA headphone asylum is an inestimable resource
I've mainly used an older pair of AKG 501's and cheap Sennheiser Pro sets
and even cheaper
I've read very good things about the Schiit amp/dac combo
or maybe a pro audio amp that can drive sets of phones, get your wife involved ... you might get sick of Fleetwood Mac, but hey, togetherness!
I use a home brew cab with dual 10" driven by a Dayton Audio SA1000 amp
but it's scary good and cheerfully cheap
listening this way takes a little getting used to but it's fun!
regards,
