Sound systems evolve (and hopefully improve). Mine evolved as follows:
In April 2019, I decided it was time to go back to a speaker based system
after 20 or so years of listening on a headphone based system. So I bought
a Rogue Cronus Magnum 2 integrated and a pair of Dali Oberon 7s. I was
happy for a while; then I bought a pair of Magnepan LRSes, and I was a lot
happier. Big upgrade. But the Rogue wasn't happy - it was struggling.
So I purchased a pair of PS Audio m700 amps and a GCD dac/preamp.
Much better, no signs of struggle, much more relaxed presentation. Then
my Bryston BCD1 cdp died, so I purchased a Cambridge CXCV2 cd transport
and am running it into the dac of the GCD. Again, bit upgrade. Also,
most of the cabling has
been changed out over that time frame, the biggest upgrade being the
replacement of stranded 14 ga. speaker cable with 12 ga. solid cable. So
in the space of 28 months my system has changed completely, and for the
better - though I do miss having tubes. My next purchase will be a new
DAC, which hopefully will be an upgrade - you never can tell about these
things. So far the evolution has been all positive. I'm hoping that
trend will continue.

Follow Ups:
Maybe time for me to evolve. I'm thinking of purchasing the Maggie LRS.
Used to have Martin Logan Sequels. Before that had large Maggies. Loved them both when I had a lot of floor space. But neither worked well when I moved into a tiny apartment. So I sold them. Replaced them with Adam Audio AX7s, a near-field speaker with built in amplification.
I've changed residence since then, and now I have plenty of floor space. And I've got an Audio Research VT130 amplifier that's currently unused. Would love to plug it into the the LRSes. Got a top quality subwoofer to to integrate with the LRSes - Muse model 18. Preamplifier is the Audio research SP8.
Seems like the LRSes for only $650 would be a major upgrade. Especially with Audio Research VT130 amplification, because Maggies love power. And the Muse Sub goes up to 50 hz, the exact low end of the LRS at 3 db.
Worried only that the LRSes would be too much of a toy, under-performing relative to my other gear. Maybe need to scale up to bigger Magnepans?
"audiophile" fits into the distinction.
Somehow, someway.
So, which is more fun then, evolution or a merry-go-round?
I'm gonna say MGR whether belt driven or DD.
Seems like Mike is having some fun with our hobby.
Either again or still.

Until they're not.
I suppose...

Nice system. The LRS like a capable amp.
