I quite enjoy these videos on analyzing singers and you may as well. She covers a wide array of singing genres. Easy for the layman to understand and provides some background to the pieces.
Elizabeth Zharoff is an international opera singer and voice coach, with 3 degrees in voice, opera, and music production. She's performed in 18 languages throughout major venues in Europe, America, and Asia. Currently based somewhere between Los Angeles and Tucson, Arizona, Elizabeth spends her days researching voice, singing, teaching, writing music, and recording TONS.
This one is for Pavorotti but she covers rock and pop and country and jazz singers as well.
I liked this one though and I find her to be an engaging presenter.
Follow Ups:
I admit I'm not much of an opera fan. There are a few have overtures I enjoy and there are a couple of arias I like, starting with this one, but not much more.
But she was so expressive and enthused I couldn't help but enjoy this. And now I have some appreciation that opera singers perform with far more nuance than I knew about, at least the good ones.
Also this encourages me to explore at least a couple of her posts on non-operatic singing. So many thanks RGA.
"The only cats worth anything are the cats who take chances. Sometimes I play things I never heard myself." Thelonious Monk
"['Turandot'] doesn't depict Asian culture in a nice way, so I definitely think that that's something that needs to be addressed."
Indeed - maybe we could change the plot and the words. Or maybe move the location of the stage action out of China. If we put our minds to it, we might REALLY be able to clean it up and rid the darn thing of all its micro-aggressions! ;-)
So out of the whole video that's what you get from it? Yes, I kind of roll my eyes at these things as well like blaming 1980s movies for not passing the Bechdel test or 1950s movies for showing people smoking. Putting modern social values on the past is irritating. I get it - just let it go.
She is still clearly enjoying the piece to near orgasm levels. I bet most of the men on this board haven't turned on a woman in bed as much as Pav's voice does for her. :)
. . . as much as Pav's voice does for her."
You might be surprised by some of us! ;-)
Thank you . That was incredible. I will have to check out more. Pure joy listening and watching Elizabeth..
