Small portable cassette players don't require transformers, fuses, contaminated AC power, power cords, all the internal wiring and electronic components like capacitors, all of which contribute noise and distortion to the signal. Thus, small portable players have a purer sound, fuller and more natural, much closer to the original master tape. The same logic applies to portable CD players, too. No more pencils, no more books, no more teacher's dirty looks.

Don't you mean "Oh, the inhumanity"?

Tip: Don't use a cassette player if the caps go bad or it doesn't work or sound good for any reason. What I was intending to convey is that *large* transformers and large capacitors are very bad for the sound. That is the reason why it's a good idea to locate power supplies well away from the amplifier. Follow?

My experience is that powering a portable cd player with batteries sucks compared to even the stock crap switching power supply that comes with it. Maybe someone else can do an AB test and let us know. I'm sure geoff has his favorite batteries so as not to muck up the test.

You got the wrong results in your little experiment. You said, "maybe someone else can do an AB and let us know." Yeah, right, someone who can do the test correctly. It's always someone else who should do it. Lol!

"It's always someone else who should do it." What the hell are you talking about? I've done it. What would be an incorrect way of doing it? Not using some very special batteries chosen after careful listening by your buddy Pierre? I thought it might be a good thing if others gave it a try to see how badly batteries sound. Enjoy listening constant hiss. I myself will take a pass on stone age technology.

I suspect you have five thumbs on each hand. I can always tell when there's a bee in your bonnet. Your spelling goes to hell. :-) I'm not sure I would use Pierre as your source of inspiration since he used 100s of lbs of lead in his set up for years. Give me a break!

I just consider the source. He was the marketeer, his partner was the whiz kid. :-)
