Follow Ups:
I believe you can use the Home Theater Bypass inputs with an outboard preamp.
First make sure that the Home Theater Bypass inputs are in fact setup for that function on your Hegel 160. Some integrated amps allow you to configure those inputs for Home Theater Bypass -or- as a regular set of inputs. Check your owner's manual.
When you're ready to try it, make sure the volume control on the preamp is turned all the way down, and turn the volume on the Hegel all the way down. Increase the volume on the preamp and listen for music.
If the volume control on the Hegel is set up for Home Theater Bypass it will have no control over the volume level. It will be inactive as the volume should be controlled from your outboard preamp.
Thanks Abe.
I do love the Hegel 160.It's a 'keeper'. I just want to experiment abit.
