Whatever performance is being discussed here, I'm kind of in the dark.....
But more and more people are noticing the enhancement being applied.... So I guess I'm no longer the lone "detective" ;^) ... (People who notice Auto-Tune usually do so in less than five seconds.... It's not overly difficult to discern, once you learn its sound signature.) People are now bringing it up like they've been doing so with "lip-syncing"......
Follow Ups:
I perused the thread, it was apparently Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem at the Inauguration..... I just watched it on YouTube.....
The application of Auto-Tune was relatively subtle, a 4/4 time signature applied to the Anthem (it's normally done in 3/4 time), it was actually better than expected.... Although the 4/4 Anthem that was truly for the ages was Whitney Houston's Super Bowl rendition in 1991. (That one did NOT have Auto-Tune.)
RIP Ms. Houston........
At least none on several notes that wavered in pitch due, I'm certain, to limits of range, and the cold temperature. My impression is based on 60 years of playing an instrument without keys or valves to maintain intonation, writing transcriptions for same, and growing up in a house with 2 semi-pro Sopranos, one of which never tired of reminding us that she once had a Met try- out.
Here's ClassicFM.com on the performance
Any Damned Fool Knows One Horse Can Run Faster Than Another
I admit I didn't watch it all the way through initially, so I did so again...... I was kind of interested in the 3/4 transition.....
A "wavering" voice is not "proof" of the absence of Auto-Tune.... Only the absence of the "locking effect" on the notes would be "proof"..... It was there in spades.
I do think the Auto-Tune may have been under-applied somewhat in this case: Gaga's real voice came through "between the notes" during the later bars of the Anthem..... Had there been no Auto-Tune during that passage, she would have sounded Gawd awful.....
I retract my "better than expected" comment elsewhere in the thread. Only the beginning part, which I listened to initially, was better than expected. It was not a strong application of Auto-Tune, but it appears that Gaga could have used a stronger application of it.
It's a shame she got involved with drugs. That jerk (name escapes me) who got her addicted should have been jailed for murder in my opinion - whether you kill someone fast or slow it's still murder. For pop Whitney was on another level vocally to the pop singers of the time. Mariah had a great voice but I tired of her constant runs. Whitney, Mariah, and Celine Dion were the big three power pop vocals when I was younger. Celine has the French accent though which is not to all tastes. Though she did well for herself in Vegas that's for sure.
Glennis Grace does do excellent Whitney Covers so she is kind of the next best thing for Whitney fans being a huge fan herself.

The Hollywood scene, which the music industry is a part of, has gone deep in the gutter...... I think a lot of these vocalists (Amy Winehouse, who succumbed to drugs and abuse, comes to mind) are propped up because they're "sex symbols" to these Hollywood executives.... These execs throw Auto-Tune at the performers to make them sell recordings and win music awards, and then exploit these performers' fame and fortune with lucrative drug deals, ultimately leaving them hung out to dry......
I think the drugs and stress of fame and fast lifestyle is a big reason why a lot of these performers end up with bitter attitudes.
Actually, I didn't hear her sing the National Anthem.
But I've seen/heard her sing live with no enhancements and she's got a great voice, IMO.
But she uses a computer for help on the records. She's not the only one either.
I can understand using enhancements if the singer isn't really all that good. No different than overdubbing or multi-tracking or adding reverb to the vocals back in the old days.
But if you have a great voice why spoil it with computer enhancements?
BTW, I can hear Autotune within a few seconds also and it's extremely annoying.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?

There is non-Auto-Tuned Gaga out there (link)..... You be the judge...... I don't think it's awful, but I don't think it's anything special either..... (But that's just one man's opinion. Someone else might think she's the real deal.)
I think the "act" initially caught people's eye more than the voice..........
