Haven't been there in years.

Yes, I remember them ( Quintessence) when they were in Naperville years ago. I'm sure a lot has changed since then. FWIW, I remember Quintessence starting out in a residential basement in Downer's Grove nearly 40 years ago.
Are you sure that wasn't Music Direct. Back in the late 1980's I remember buying stuff from Jim in his basement in Morton Grove.
The original Quintessence guy's name was Frank Sousa.(spelling ?) He had two different basement locations until he moved to a B&M in Naperville in the early 80's. His first basement location was in Downer's Grove in the late 70's. At least that was the timeframe when I first discovered Quintessence. I'm sure the name has been passed along to new owners over the years. FWIW, Frank was a big fan of Vandersteen, Shahinian Obelisks and Mordaunt Short back in those very early "basement" days.
I did not know that. Jim from Music Direct also had a basement in Morton Grove where he sold stuff mail order. I use to go there when I went to Rosine Audio back in the late 1980's.
Yep, Larry Rosine worked for (or with?) Frank at that second "residential basement" Quintessence. Probably around 1983. After that came the B&M in Naperville at some point. I moved to AZ. in 1986, so I lost track of the continuing history/ownership of Quintessence.
My ProAc Studio 3 speakers came from Rosine as demos.
Still in my system.
No turntable.
Me? I have a ClearAudio Innovation Wood turntable with Universal Arm.
