So maybe Gilbert and Sullivan?
Operatic "recitative" might actually be the "original rap".........
Except that recitative is sung on pitch (in a rhythm which allows for fairly wide latitude), whereas the rhythmic recitations of Façade are spoken in strict rhythm. Maybe we could say that recitative is an "influence" on Rap? ;-)
