Hi all!
Just wondering if anyone here is on the staff of US Audio Mart. I was surfing through the ads, and it appears they now have as many ads ( if not more than ) Audiogon. Actually it wouldn't hurt my feelings if Audiogon shriveled up and died! Anyway, if I recall correctly. Audiogon began as a free listing web site, and then turned into a greedy audio sales giant after the ran the other free listing audio web sites in the ground.
Anyone here know if that is the intention of US Audio Mart?
Follow Ups:
A pet peeve of mine concerning Audiogon isn't what they charge but when doing a google search on a specific item for sale and getting an Audiogon hit when you click on the link and the ad is expired, all is there except the listing price. Now why in the hell do they do that except for some kind of data marketing tool that they can sell? This wasn't always the case, it really irks me.
They do that so you have to pay for a blue book subscription. Been about a year. I never use them anymore.
I have used Audio Circle to sell a couple of things and buy even more.
worked well, not a big seller by any means.
they send free, unlimited email alerts on specific models/brands I'm looking for; up to 720 days.

US Audio Mart is an off shoot of Canuck Audio Mart. It is, and always has been a free service for casual users. There is a fee for dealers and if you post a significant number of ads over a period of time. But for most people it is free.
You will notice that a lot of the ads are from Canada or the US, but there is also a UK Audio Mart, and an Aussie Audio Mart, so you may see ads from there as well.
There are also forums.
FYI - I've had good success on Canuck/US and also on Asylum Trader. I never post on Audiogon.

As I slowly slip into the dark cesspool of audiophalia neurosis. . . .
My speaker building site
I didn't have any trouble at Audiogon with bad deals when they were free to list. Didn't have any trouble at Audioweb when they were free. It's free here at Audioasylum and I have never had a problem here. Audiogon is a pain in the ass! I have made the same post a half a dozen times before it finally is posted. Also they have the screw so tight with their site now, I think it may be easier to be cleared by the FBI.
I think eventually US Audio Mart will take enough of a chunk of the Audiogon profit, they will be forced to do something to make it cheaper. I recall when AMD began making processors eventually Intel was forced to lower their prices.
It's hard to compare. One thing that I noticed is that unlike Audiogon or our Trader, the US Audio Mart ads appear to remain on the site for 6 months versus 30 days. If you look at ads in the last 30 days, their total is about 1,800 ads, still a hefty number.

When Audiogon changed hands from the original owner in Michigan to the guy in ? North Carolina, then the prices started up up up. Actually the new buyer agreed to let the Michigan guy still run it, but soon broke the deal
Damn Agon STILL owes me something like $8 credit I will never see again.
IMO totally free is a problem. free mean all sorts of crap gets in. Like Craigslist. Including plenty of shyster activity.
I think a nominal charge is the best. $2 is perfect. Cuts the crap out.
...Whine as we might, it's a very effective site for buying & selling gear. Do I like the price hikes? No. Do I turn to Audiogon for results? Hell yes!
I allways try the free ones first, but allways end up selling it on Agon.

Abe, I've seen you add and subtract from your gear over the years, and not low dollar stuff either. Is the market still there to use Audiogon as I and many others did back 10 or 12 years, careful buying enabling "monthly rental try-outs" of high-end components?
I haven't bought and sold anything very 'high-end' on Audiogon lately, mostly sub $1000 items . As such, I still see good activity and interest on Audiogon unless the gear is way overpriced. My items tend to sell within a reasonable amount of time but I make it a point not to squeeze every dime out of the sale. Mine are usually priced fairly, or better than fair.
I no longer use Audiogon to sell stuff, as I find here and USA do it as well for free. I will buy at audiogon, though.
I will use eBay, since they only charge if I sell. I will also off set my price at eBay to account for their charge cost.
To each his own. Audiogon still has the highest success rate for me.
I have tried to sell the same items at the same prices on all of the sites. Ebay is the only site that has delivered consistent results for me. In fact 95% of sales for me have been through Ebay.
