April 9, 1970, at San Francisco's Carousel Ballroom which Bill Graham later renamed as Filmore West and is now the Honda dealership at Market and Van Ness. This room had horribly low ceilings and Michaels used multiple (I think six) Leslies and one microphone. The drums had the remainder of the front of house PA which was by far one of the loudest concerts in memory.
Despite the volume at the duets disposal they did use tasteful dynamics that got so low Frosty played an accompanied solo that was remarkably lyrical bare handed!
Second on the bill was Miles Davis. The band began by playing a five minute intro before Miles came out. He played seven notes and slowly walked off the stage as Bill Graham fumed in the stage left wings never to return that evening. Steve Grossman, Dave Holland, Jack DeJonette, and Chick Corea, carried on and ripped through a long set to numerous ovations. An LP was recorded the following evening.
The headliner was the McKernan Grateful Dead.
