Later this year, we will be commemorating the 30th anniversary of Savatage's Hall Of The Mountain King. It was producer Paul O'Neill, who recognized the band's talents, and set them on a prog metal course.
From this prog metal vein, Savatage would morph into more of a Broadway metal act. And from there, Trans-Siberian Orchestra was born.
Savatage were fortunate to carve out this prog metal niche. That enabled them to survive the grunge scourge of the early-90s.
