You merely transcode them in an unattended batch process. Which is what I've already done to support my new truck's Apple play which only supports MP3 and AIFF. And to MP4 for my iOS based mobile devices. No more difficult than using Google translate for languages.
When you capture all the resolution from your CDs in a lossless format, there really are no limitations. And enjoy higher resolution PCM and DSD formats as well.

We're the same age, and I'm from Washington State--nothing compares to the Pacific Northwest. For whatever reason, I have no interest in ripped or computer based music. I have to deal with changing formats all the time with the software I use at my job; just not interested in it at home.

Interesting, but I don't want to take my music with me everywhere; I like listening to it in my listening room. When I'm in the car, I like listening to NPR; when at work, I like listening to Pandora so that I can be exposed to new music. But the real listening has to take place in the listening room.

To each his own I guess. I listen as many hours to the modest garage system in good weather as I do the main system.
And occasionally in the bedroom using an iOS device and Shure SE535 IEMs - or when I'm on the lawn tractor.
