Recently someone asked Rod a question about having to constantly click the back button in order to back out of a thread. (See link below.) Rather than ignoring the question, (as Audiogon would do), or deleting the thread, (as Audiogon would proably do, as they would see it as a complaint against their system, which is something they do not allow), he promptly gave us a solution. (Which, Rod, works great by the way!! Thanks for that!)
I love being able to interact with the moderators here on Audio Ayslum, as that is something that is virtually forbidden on Audiogon.
And this is why I come and play here rather than at Audiogon anymore.
Thanks again for running such a user friendly website!

PS I wonder how long the Audiogon complaint thread, mentioned immediately below this, will be allowed to run on Audiogon's forum?
(My guess is not long.)

Things on audigon sell.
I have never sold on item on audio trader.
Same items listed on agon same price sell in days or a week.
Frustrating, but there it is.

While I agree that I've had very little luck selling items here on the Asylum Trader, my original topic was about the asylum versus the forum.
Regarding the trader; I have come to the conclusion that it will never take off until Rod decides to charge for equipment ads. (Software, i.e. LPs, CDs, etc., should remain free.) He needs to use that money to advertise on other audio websites, and/or, in audio magazines. Until then, it will remain a distant second to Audiogon unfortunately.
So, I was thinking, if it were me running this site, (and it's not, which is probably a good thing, as Rod does such a good job!), but if I were, I would charge for ads in the following manner:
If you're not a member, $5 an ad, (and no extra percentage off the selling price like Audiogon or Ebay), just a flat fee, (like Audiogon used to be the greedy bastards!).
FYI: Ads run for a month.
If you're an undiagnosed member, (i.e. $25 a year), it would cost $3 an ad, for up to 5 ads a year, and then $4 an ad after that.
(Plus the cool yoyo of course!!)
If you're an outpatient member, (i.e. $50 a year), it would cost $3 an ad, for up to 10 ads a year, and then $4 an ad after that.
(And again, the cool yoyo!)
If you're an inpatient member (i.e. $100 a year), it would cost $2 an ad, for up to 10 ads a year, and then $3 an ad after that.
(Plus your free gift.)
If you're a certifiable loon member, (i.e. $250 a year), it would cost $2 an ad, for up to 25 ads a year, and then $3 an ad after that.
(Plus your free gift.)
***All manufacturers and dealers would at least have to start here.***
If you're in the straight jacket club, (i.e. $500 a year), it would cost $1 an ad, for up to 50 ads a year, and then $2 an ad after that.
(Plus your free gift.)
If you're had a frontal lobotomy, (i.e. $1,000 a year), it would be free to post an ad, for up to 100 ads a year, and then $1 an ad after that.
(Plus your free gift.)
If you're had a full lobotomy, (i.e. $5,000 a year), it would be free to post any number of ads.
(Plus your free gift.)
I figure most audiophile types, like myself, would be in one of the first two categories. Hard core audiophiles, who look upon this as a hobby, and like to audition equipment several times a year, (I have a couple of friends who do this, and there is nothing wrong with that!), would probably be in the third category. And the small manufacturers and dealers would be in the fourth or fifth category, and the large manufacturers and dealers would be in the largest categories.
That's what I would do anyway!
Your thoughts?
(Well, other than that fact that I should probably make this a separate thread!) ;-)
