One paragraph of the copyright notice says {emphasis mine):"Furthermore, all content posted at the Asylum is expressly and non-exclusively licensed to the Asylum to be used by the Asylum at no cost or royalty for any purpose including licensing to a third party."
What in the world does that mean, and on what date was this policy instituted? What third parties are implied here?
I do not grant you the right to sell, trade, license, or otherwise distribute any of my submitted content to third parties. If you have a problem with that, say so, and I will stop posting on AA altogether.

Everything's about info gathering today. And having others copying you is just the way it is. If one doesn't want proprietary info out best not post in any forum or on facebook etc. I get copied so much it just makes me laugh now as they end up running out of ideas since they had to steal one to begin with. Its self correcting. Here today gone tomorrow.

Why is Google allowed to extract postings to put on the net ?
I'm no lawyer, but I'd say you grant them the right to use your content when you agree to their TOS. Your only option, short of convincing them to give you a waiver or change their policy, is to cease posting.
But, for what it's worth, this is standard boilerplate. Look at it from a website's perspective: if someone approached them and wanted to publish a book called "Best of the Hamster Fancier's Forum," the Hamster Forum would have to negotiate for terms with every single person who had posted relevant content in a thread, even if they were only quoted. It would be logistically and financially impossible. So they set things up so that they have rights to publish what you write, and you shouldn't post anything for which you want to reserve all rights.

Glad you pointed that out Brian.
I am not over here much theses days but I am glad I saw it.
If you are leaving here please don't leave the audio forums altogether (I for one appreciate your postings).
Why not try the audio circle?
A lot of folks from here have been appearing over there.
I am sure that I am not the only one who appreciates your wisdom.
Please keep up your postings.
If not at the audio circle please let us know where.

Why should we?
Observe, before you think
Hey Brian,Having only one semester of business law, much of which dealt with contracts, and not playing a lawyer on TV, I'm no expert. But I'd interpret that to mean that the asylum can use a poster's posts any way they want, without compensation to the poster.
But also note that the use is "non-exclusive", meaning you (or anyone else) can use it as well, any way you/they please.
On the other hand, just because an entity puts wording in a contract doesn't mean it's enforceable. It has to comply with applicable law.
If you have information you wish to convey, but want to retain copyright control of it and don't want it to be "content", you can post it somewhere else, such as on your own website, and then simply post a link to it on AA. That way, only the link is "content".

" and I will stop posting on AA altogether "
believe it when I ( dont ) see it.
seems that you are worrying about nothing.....
And it's been that way for years. By posting you agree with the terms.

It's quite clear. I suggest you stop posting. By posting you are agreeing with Rod's guidelines.

I've seen that blurb on several sites. I once read Photobucket dot com goes as far to say they own your pics once you've posted and can do pretty much they want with them; the trade-off being you have a free online medium. This might be comparing apples to oranges but hey; they're both fruit.
The solution? well you pretty much answered that in your own post.
may the bridges I burn light the way...
