I was watching TV the other day and they had a guy named Jeremy Kipnis who spent $6 million on his home theater system.
My question is how did he get his millions? Does anyone know?
Follow Ups:
Why should you (we) care?
How did George Clooney manage to buy a villa in Italy? I can't, because I don't have that kind of wealth. Sure, he works hard, and plays hard. I work hard, too, with little left over for play.
If the government refuses to tax such people appropriately, then people like Clooney, Pitt, Jolie, Crow, Buffett, Gates, Soros, and others should voluntarily fork over another 10-15 percent of their gross income, so at least they can say they're paying their fair share.
Anyway, back to the HT guy... I don't really care how he got his millions. Those speakers are UGLY, with a capital U-G-L-Y!
:)
That voluntary payment is a brilliant idea, especially in an election year.
Cheers
Bill
Thanks--In inadvertantly deleted the post instead of editing it. I have always maintained that those that bitch about the taxes needing to be raised should just boot in some extra money on the form as they feel in their heart. The truth is this..they want "everyone else" to do it..so long as they don't have to. All fluff man. Another set of more vulgar words are appropriate for fluff.. hehehe..

Bravo! I have the utmost respect for people that accumulate wealth the old fashioned way, by working hard.
???
I remember a high-end pro studio designer telling me several years ago that hot amps sitting in front of speakers interferes with the sound at the console, because of the heat rising up through the soundpath.
Huh. Just fyi.

Now I'm confused.
From the text of the link he provided:
"A few decades ago, his father - world-renowned harpsichordist and pianist, Igor Kipnis - asked a close friend (who was also a world famous architect and acoustician) to design and build him a very special room: a 210 square meter, double-story music studio and media library. He was clearly in need of such a room in order to house his large keyboard instrument collection, musical manuscripts, and enormous record & tape libraries, which he used in his daily profession as a performer, musicologist, and raconteur. After the completion of this grand music studio, Igor often played mini-recitals and hosted small benefit concerts in this room for invited friends and guests to join him and enjoy the wonderful classical melodies while also raising needed money for charity. It also soon became a great little home theater featuring an early Henry Kloss “NovaBeam” 3-Gun CRT projector with a 6.5 foot screen as it’s centerpiece. However, Igor could not have possibly imagined that within a few decades, his son, Jeremy would be equally attracted to the magic of this room, and recreate it as a complete statement demonstrating what home theater is really supposed to be all about!"

I could have done it but instead got married and divorced!
I know Jeremy. Some of it is old money and the other good bit is a lot of hard work, 25+ years in the recording business and owns his own label (on HD tracks) and it does not take a too many dozens of major home theater installations to reap the rewards. BTW, he is very approachable, is a stand up guy and is very visible on facebook.
You could ask him in private there but his answer would be-- "I work my ass off and it isn't easy" One aspect of his business is video calibration. Getting that done at top level quality (for Theaters not running film and high end home systems) does not cost him out of pocket in materials and can be a very valuable and of course profitable. It is a skill set that many have a rough time with and he is a real expert with that.
Enophies answer is quite accurate.

may the bridges I burn light the way...
The guy can afford a $6 million HT system..... I can't even afford a $6,000 HT system...... No problem. [-;
I'm just curious about how you could make a home theater system cost $6 million if you tried.
His dad was Igor Kipnis...a noted recording artist.
Neither of those things really answered your question....I don;t know how he 'got his money.'
Romney would say he earned every penny on his own. Obama would say he relied on others to become a success.
;D
Even though he has a bunch of tubed Mac amps and what appear to be custom HT speakers the gear couldn't add up to 6 Million bucks.
The room with it's rare original scores, master tapes, records and other media may add up to 6 Million $, but I still have my doubts. The guy's Father and he are "Raconteurs" which I think means clever showman, types with good business acumen. That may account for the inflation if I am correct.
Steve
He has well over 1 million in Cardas house wiring, his own step down from feeder transformer system (x2) and balanced transformer system. He did this because you only live once and he can. He puechased the units in the picture. 13.8KV to legs of 120..etc
"He did this because you only live once and he can."
Very interesting editorializing.
You are welcomed to ask him from the contact info on his website. Jeremy can fill you in on any question you may have.
No thanks. He's your buddy, you contact him. What do I look like, IRS or something?
I thought you were curious about the system, ..my bad. I talk to him several times a week. We have been friends for quite a while. The coversation usually leans toward source material and such. He is an excellent source of knowledge on all things audio + good productions and releases. ;)
...there are so many visual distractions between the viewer and the screen ...lots of little blue power meters and dozens of glowing tubes.
Seems silly to go through all of that other trouble and then design a major visual distraction into the system. Kind of like inviting a guy over to sit in front of you and text all night while you try and watch a movie.
Maybe the amps are positioned as pictured just for show and in reality they are remotely located? That could be the case, since they do not look to be wired ...and would make much more sense.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

$6 million is quite a bit to account for. If it's something he'd care to disclose here, that is fine by me. Put the inquiring minds to rest. Being his friend, you should know, there's nothing to hide. An AA exclusive!
Jeremy posted to this thread, you can ask him directly..I do not need to!
"Jeremy posted to this thread, you can ask him directly..I do not need to!"
Duh. If I truly cared, I would have asked him directly.
Good for you! I like a man who makes a decision and sticks to it..but it makes me wonder why you wasted any time with me.. No worries..
"..but it makes me wonder why you wasted any time with me.."
It was nothing, really.
