There aren't many instructions with my new Zerostat 3 gun. I have a couple questions
- does it matter what surface the object is lying on? to do a CD should I lay it on a table? or hold it in my hand? or put it in the CD tray?
- should I squeeze the trigger slowly enough that there are no clicks?
- is it beneficial to do cables? components?

I use mine occasionally for getting static "pops" off vinyl records.
My technique is to hold the record in the crux of my arm (so my fingers don't touch the surface), and squeeze the trigger in slowly. I then point the "gun" away to release the trigger.
I know some people continue to point at the record to release the trigger, but I found that just put static back on the record.
I haven't tried it on CDs, and can't think how it would help cables.
As far as I understand the way it works to take static off, bombarding with ions (positive or negative) doesn't put static on something. The ions will only stick to places that have an opposite charge. So you bombard it first with positive ions (I think those are first) to take away negative charges, then bombard it negative ions to take away positive charges.
would be correct

I know I'm out of step with common practice here, but, for whatever reason, the "one shot" method is what worked for me, after many frustrating attempts with the other approach. If anyone is having trouble with the Zerostat, they may want to try my method, instead of the usual one.
The "operating procedures" section strongly implies that you release the trigger with the gun in its original position, pointed at the LP, but the "general notes" say to point the gun away from the LP when releasing the trigger for best results.
So why not just say that in the first place? If you're the manufacturer, wouldn't you want people to use the gun at its best every time? The lack of decent copy editing when writing manuals and instructions has driven me crazy for decades.
Current production Zerostats don't have those instructions. Very minimal. How about benefit to cables or components?
I don't know the answer to your question about cables, etc. But again, I would strongly suggest a search of the various Asylums. There's been a wealth of information posted over the years.
