I recently bought a pair of Stax SR-X Mk headphones. After about a month the right channel started dropping out, and now a month later the right channel is shot. Stax stopped making these cords some time ago. Is there an easy method to repair these, or would it take an expensive hi-fi shop if it can be done at all? Is it the cord, or is it the mylar? Great buy, disappointing outcome.

... at our own Headphone Heights forum (see "Head" at the top of this page). FYI, you might be able to have a new cable made for you by one of the cable specialists around. I can recommend the reasonably priced, custom cable work done by Brian Goto of BTG-Audio.
