My favorite b boy, r.I.p.
one of my favorites............rip
this group went through a lot of resistance and wasn't taken very seriously during their first few years. I guess you can make the same argument for Emmenime (sp?) who no doubt was influenced by the BBs.Once again, although I rarely listened to either act, they're both ok in my book.
In any event, for an 80's group, they were pretty much on par with all the other acts poppin' up during that era.
may the bridges I burn light the way....

Always bad news hearing a death but, I'm finding it a reminder that I'm getting old(or already?) Reading posts clearly shows younger(I'm 50)
fans sharing their experiences listening to them. Never was a fan however
they were part of the huge change in music in the mid 80's
Not sure if I would ever consider that era on the level of other "classic"
types-rock, jazz, blues of course classical but, If you're younger by 5 or so years, that's the type of stuff you kids listened to. Look how that era evolved into what it is now.
I must have listened to Paul's Boutique a thousand times, mostly in 1989 and 1990, when I was also into Big Daddy Kane, Eric B and Rakim, Public Enemy, Third Bass, De La Soul, etc., but continued to until today, and will continue to. Absolutely loved the later stuff too, especially the song Sabotage. Great video too. Brilliant group.RIP Adam.

Sad news. His Beastie boys colleague Adam Horovitz went to my high school in NYC and is the son of the prominent and prolific playwrite Israel Horovitz. So you never know how artistic talent will pass down to the next generation.

I was the same, until I gave them a chance-been a fan ever since. Not everything that was released was gold, of course, but many of their cuts are on constant rotation in this house-courtesy of my three kids.
I have a hard time thinking of them as anything but twenty year old kids. They got old, how did that happen!
Maybe not in constant rotation here, but I agree with all you said. Talented guys who apparently kept it together over the years. Would have been cool if they all lived long enough to become the old men they portrayed on the cover of their Anthology album! Sad news indeed :-(

Played "Hot Sauce Committee" Part Two two nites ago.
I actually had it in the truck for the last several days and have become more familiar with it. It's QUITE a bit better than I initially thought. May be time for or a boom box in the ole Ranger!
