choices. I was obviously hoping for a different "sound" but so it goes. The basement is currently in chaos from construction but I think that is probably not as important as the aragon in determining the harsh sound. I was hoping for a better outcome, but so be it. I have never experienced an amp "breaking in" --since I have never had a new amp and was hoping that the aragon would morph into something more mellow. Norm

Norm, haven't followed this site for a little while and it seems you've attracted some less than charitable comments :-D also note you've made 2k plus? posts here, so must have helped a lot of people on the journey!
Seems to me, the addition of any new piece in an established system is like opening yet another door into the dark room... and searching for the elephant! You've options... the skill is always in the recovery and the accomodation of the new piece and you gotta work at it - 1st degree: start with 'pallative' tweaking using every trick in the book, 2nd degree: invasive tweaking of the new component, 3rd degree: change the components around the newest component... (er, high risk/very brave) 4th degree: liquidate the asset (get shot), learn from the experience, no pain/no gain and move onward and upward.
...He knows not where he's going but the ocean will decide its not the destination but the glory of the ride... (Edward Monkton/Zen Dog). Incidentally, whilst I sympathise with soulfood's sentiments - I just know he must be a real honey to live with :-D good luck & enjoy, FW

Dude, don't even think about it. I'm happily married.
Electrocompaniet; brands that are now defunct but still show up on the used market; Moscode, Hafler, Forte, Brown Electronic Labs also known as BEL, also the Bedini class A amps, Tandberg who made amps as well as receivers and the Nakamichi Stasis amps. Among many others not mentioned but they are much more expensive such as the STAX class A amp and Rowland Research (that's as in 'Jeff' Rowland not to be confused with the mass market company Roland Research).
I would mention the Acoustat TNT - Trans Nova Twin 200 amplifier while it is not specifically on the warm side, more neutral leaning into a silvery mosfet character to the upper mids and highs, it can when matched with the right speaker be exceptional as regards sound quality.
A few caveats: Yes, the later Classe amps are more neutral sounding and the early amps are climbing in price. The conrad-johnson are not particularly cheap either. The Hafler amps are a bit harsh and gritty and one is not very likely to run across an Acoustat TNT amp and they are best matched with electrostatic speakers anyway. Bedini seems to be in/out of production once again. Yes, Nakamichi licensed the "Stasis" technology from Threshold. Lastly, the Rowland Research is more of a golden sheen to its character than dark per say, it favored brass instruments the most and is expensive also.
