Hi All,
I am seriously considering (99% there) upgrading to the VPI HR-X 12.7. I wanted to get some ideas on what types of platforms some are using. I have read that a hardwood maple platform is typical in most applications. I'd like to know what the best options are and the best place to purchase.
Thanks.

I owned an HRX for around 4 years. It has its own suspension in either the air bladders or the squash balls and both work very well.I used a Symposium Ultra platform under my HRX. Frankly, a chest of draws sounds just as good. It looked nice and sounded OK, but it offers no isolation. It is doing a very nice job sleeping under my lounge at the moment.
Spend you $$ on a better cartridge or phono stage.

I don't want to go the isolation platform route, just a basic maple block platform. I need something large enough (27"x21") to accommodate the HRX. I will be using my current stand.
I replaced the stock minifeet on my Superscoutmaster Rim Drive and the results were outstanding. Check out Bearclaws at VermontAudio.com
FWIW I use a Mapleshade 4" platform on a Mapleshade Sampson rack with complete satisfaction. It is rock solid, and sounds that way, compared to my previous wobbly rack, which swayed like the Leaning Tower in a high wind. Note that this is air-dried maple, which is alleged to sound better than kiln-dried maple, though I have have not made a comparison.
Whitmore,
Can you please post a pic?
Thanks

I am such a techno-klutz that I can barely retrieve e-mail without doing myself bodily harm. The Mapleshade website photo is accurate, a very nice looking piece of wood, and each one unique. I think you will need a custom size, but thay don't gouge you,
Sorry the link didn't go through (It's this dang coal-fired computer) but you can see them at mapleshadestore.com
Thank you! It helps that they are only 45 minutes away! Yes!
