Gang,
I have shown at CES for 15 years only taking last year 2007 off. This was my first year at the Venetian and for all it was it went really well.
I think we have found over the years that hotels don't make a very good venue. It's not the room or the way it's setup but merly getting around. I remember in NY at the Stereophile show we had too many on the evelator and it droped 6 feet and got stuck :)))
This was no different... why not put all the Tower suites on sequential floors? It was easy to go by steps from 29-30. But not easy to get to 34 and 35. It was not also easy to get to the floor area of the Venetian, but let's face it we all need a little excersise.
The room's at the tower were better than I expected. The furniture was a little hard to work with and I am still waiting for some kinda bill from the Venetian.
The Venetian is a little too pretty for high end. I say this thinking of the large crates that drape the halls ways on setup day and tear down day.
I did not not get over to The Show but I was dining with Neil Sinclair and he said a car bomb could go off over there and not injure anyone. I realize CES sold out early and was not accomodating. Yell louder... I did and they got me a room. Look the idea of saving money and going to The Show is silly. You are there too make money and with a little help you can pull off the Venetian pretty easily. Just party up with some friends and split the bill in the end you will do better for it.
I thought CES sucked for not allowing more companies into the Towers. I also thought the staff sucked because they really don't understand high end and what is needed to pull off a show.
I thought GES was outstanding this year. I lost 4 boxes and they said they would send someone up to help out. I litterally hung up the phone and there was a knock at the door. We had the boxes in the room in less than an hour.
Incidental costs at the Venetian are par for the hotel and again I think a little too elogant for what we needed.

Last Dave Clark it was great to see you at the show thanks for the nice pics on the link below. BUT all the captions are wrong. If you would please email me and I can tell you what the pics are.
Thanks

What do Audiophiles say to each other in a stuck overcrowded elevator?
...the hot chicks in the elevator!
Oh, there aren't any, just old Baby Boomers....
Everyone know they don't say anything. They look at their shoes or watch the lights change.
"No, elevators are analog. It's stair that are digital, moron."- This signature is two channel only -
I actually prefer the Venetian except for the elevators and the lack of sunshine. I like THE Show, too, but could not find time for it with everything else to see.

Weds and Thurs. were very busy at THE Show and at CES. The elevators in the Towers are impossible and the Mezzanine floors rooms are worthless because of the partitions. Certainly the addition of the Alexis Park to THE Show and the crowds and overtaxed state at Venetian made people more dissatisfied than even last year.
Conditions at the Convention Center were even worse.
...you should be hearing from him any moment now.
All the best,

The base 13.5ft x 19ft room at the St Tropez was $2800 vs $4600 for something smaller at the Venetian. There was an empty room beside us and across the hall, so no sound breakthrough. We had steady traffic from retailers and reviewers, plus many audiophiles. We were able to drive our vans up almost to the door of our room and unload them ourselves in less than two hours. There were no incidental expenses. Zero. No union to deal with either, and the hotel personnel were most helpful.
....at the Venetian. Talk to Chris Sommovigo for another take on GES, and their customer-friendly practices. While I cannot speak for others, our room at the Alexis had *steady* traffic each day (excepting Thursday), from early in the morning to dinner time. I'm fortunate I had my sleeping room directly upstairs so I could make breakfast and lunch, as sometimes it was tough carving out any time for a short break due to the constant flow of people.
I made it to the Venetian one afternoon, and while finding lots of people walking the halls, some rooms had better attendance than others, and some were devoid of any human beings whatsoever. This is typical for all shows. Your language about "a car bomb going off" is most unfortunate, and highly prejudicial (what else is new?). I'd much rather have high-quality visitors taking their time to experience our carefully-installed system, than hordes of geese from the convention center.
The "idea of saving money" is "silly"? Oh, Gordon....
"Your language about "a car bomb going off" is most unfortunate, and highly prejudicial (what else is new?)."
Your reading comprehension isn’t so good. Re-read Gordon's post. That’s not "his language." He’s quoting Neil Sinclair. Mr. Sinclair was expressing his honest reaction to attendance at THE Show. If you have a problem with that, it’s your problem not Gordon’s or Neil’s. Grow up.

P.S.
After attending both shows, I agree with Gordon’s assertions. So does everyone else I spoke with at both events… which leaves you odd man out. So what else is new.

Milos,
Thanks for cattle proding Alan. He seems to want to respond to everything.
I talked to a number of people who showed at Alexis and St Topez and I agree with you. Many felt the show was a bust.
I talked to Holger Fromme from Avantgarde who signed on to Globe after the show. He said Jodi said hifi in the states is at an all time low. I said to Holger did he show at the Venetian or The Show. The answer was obvious and I said to Holger next year they better be at the Venetian so they can make a big splash.
Thanks
Gordon

That's what you call a cattle prod? Rather a lightweight attempt, imo. Keep posting with a one-sided rendition of "the facts", and I'll keep responding to your prejudicial posts.

Really? Then talk to Kara Chaffee. Brian Cheney. Ralph Karsten. Paul Wakeen. Walter Swanbon, to name just a few....but you won't.

Then explain why Jodi rented a villa several miles from either the Venetian or St. Tropez last year, to entertain their distributors and display their systems. While they did share a room at the Venetian with Brinkmann last year, why didn't they return, if it's as wonderful and 'splashy' as you say? Oh wait....you said Jodi said business was down. Doesn't this contradict the rosy picture you paint?
....with Gordon. And my reading comprehension is just fine. Gordon didn't have to repeat such unfortunate, inflammatory language to make his point. A glib comment about car bombs is extremely poor taste, period, no matter who says it. You are smart enough to understand why.
Your small circle of friends doesn't include all the exhibitors at the St. Tropez and Alexis Park who very much enjoyed the show, and are re-upping for next year. Quality over quantity....not odd at all.
