Terry Cain passed in his sleep just moments before midnight after being hospitalized for several days due to respiratory complications. We will look into setting up a memorial fund soon. In the meantime, the family will need a week or so to address immediate needs. Based on counsel from our
attorney, it's appropriate for the benefit to continue. Donors who wish to join in or continue to participate are invited to do so, understanding that if contributions
exceed actual health care-related expenses, they will benefit a memorial fund (with proceeds going to where they are most needed and any remainders going to ALS
research, or another charity of the family's choosing). Thanks to all of you for your kindness.

We will miss you Terry!
What a wonderful man and what a great loss to many. I was fortunate to have spent time with Terry enjoying good wine and scotch and food when he hand delivered a pair of Abby's and later a Bailey. For some reason his speakers were equipment I never parted with and now I know why. They were made with love and soul and I will cherish them as a possession in life I have that holds meaning.Be patient Terry your friends will join you later!
I know you have already passed through the gates. Please watch over us unlucky ones left behind
I think I was the youngest guy there. Brought my VERY non audiophile pop with me, long drive from WI.I remember going to Terry’s room, it was right near the entrance of the hotel. To this day Terry’s room is one of maybe 4 or so rooms I vividly remember because of its wow and ah factor. But also because of how down to earth this man demoing his gear was. He looked, talked and presented himself as just a nice guy who really seemed to love music and people. The show had allot of, shall I say, eccentric types, but I didnt get that from this man at all.
I was very green in the many forms of highend audio and my father was a virgin till that day. We both walked into the Cain room, looked at the speakers and were kinda bewildered as to what we might hear. We sat down in the dozen or so chairs with a few others, Terry put some music on and BAM. WOW, we werent expecting that! These tall, relatively plain looking towers with one driver just floored us all with some of the most natural, accurate and dynamic sound Id ever heard. You always read about peoples wife factor examples. My dad has never, nor will he likely ever own or desire a high end rig, and he walked out of that room saying it was one of the best sounding stereos he’d ever heard. I still cant get over how much bass those towers made. I remember Terry’s room had some of the most buzz of any room at the show. No one was doing it like him.
I am honored I had a chance to meet the now legend. All the shared comments mirror my experience as well in some way. He has forged his mark in many ways and wont be forgotten.
My grandfather on my mother’s side died about 3 years ago from this horrible, slow and crippling disease. It first struck him in his throat. This is a painful way to go for anyone.
I will be donating something from my collection to the fund. I extend to Terry’s family my deepest sympathy.
I first met Terry at the 2003 VSAC. The visual and aural beauty of his speakers made a lasting impression. I was fortunate enough to enjoy some good times with Terry and the Eastern Washington Audio Mafia.....But those times pass to soon. Especially in Terry's case.Of all the memories that come back there was always one quote of
"Is that how George would do it?" This always involved a soldering mishap of some sort. And we were referring to Mr Cardas, who's products Terry had employed in some of his speakers.
In some ways I am glad to see that Terry is no longer suffering. Although I would have given anything to see him make a full recovery from his disease. I do beleive in a life after this one, and one of my wishes is to meet up with my friend again.
Last week it was the best deputy sheriff in King County-he was our neighborhood cop and this week it is Terry, a man of great passion and with a kind soul.My condolences go out to his family and friends on the east side of the Cascades. You will be missed, Terry.
Thanks Terry.
My heart aches upon learning of this news.Godspeed Terry. You were one of the great folks.
And we will miss you.
I am sorry to hear of Terry's passing. I never met him but his passion for all things audio was evident. Since I lost my brother to ALS almost 6 years ago I am saddened when I hear of someone else contracting this hideous disease. BTW, if anyone wants to donate to the National MS Society, they support ALS patients and assist in conducting research to find a cure for neuromuscular diseases. Best wishes to his family.
I first met Terry a couple years ago and always enjoyed his company immensely. I work only a couple minutes from his shop and stopped by unannounced a few times and was always treated with great hospitality. His influence on my audio knowledge will be long lasting. I got him over to my house once for a listening party that was great fun.
The industry has lost a gem. Heartfelt sympathy to his family his company family

Unwelcome news. I only met Terry once, but his passion for what he
was doing was clear.

I never met or had any interaction with Terry, but I believe that one call tell a lot about a person's legacy from what people say about him after he's gone. And, judging by the responses here, Terry was a very special human being. As someone who's lost 10 friends and relatives (including two parents) over the last eight years, I think I have an inkling of what his friends and family are going through. It's the toughest thing a human being can ever experience, bar none. A lot of the wounds don't heal fully, but time does eventually make them bearable. I wish Terry's family and friends all the best in their recovery.
Wishing him and his family all the very best. Consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to have enjoyed spending many great times with Terry at shows. His deep passion for music always shined through and he will be greatly missed by many people.Enjoy the Music,
*sigh*How truly sad.

our sincerest condolences go out to the cain family. terry was a true shining light in the audiophile community and will be missed greatly by all of us. rest in peace and godspeed Terry!!
Best wishes to the family of one who embodied the spirit of invention and a zest for music.
My sincerest condoleances to all his loved ones. I never met Terry but sensed from what others said about him that he was a wonderful man!
God takes the best ones soonest...This is a terrible loss for the audio community. While it comes as a shock how surprisingly quick things went bad, it was a blessing for the family in the long run as it's done, with no drawn out pain and suffering because there is nothing worse than watching a loved one waste away interminably.
My best to the family and my thanks to Terry for being such an inspiration who won't be forgotten.
I never met a guy who had such tireless enthusiasm for good music and good sound. We're three thousand miles apart, and when he was healthy, we would post back and forth a dozen times a week, him packing up the van full of speakers and electronics to go and audition at Nelsons, or Joshs, or someplace. Report when pau, what worked, what didn't, new stuff he hadn't seen before, especially new makers he had found. The guy was a tireless advocate for small-shop guys who he saw as doing the thing right, and for advancing the cause of better music in the general community.Aloha Nui Loa, Terry; see you soon.
I'll miss you, Terry. You raised the bar for us all, and we're all better for having known you.Sincere condolences to your wife and family.
'till we meet again,
Thank you Stephaen for letting us know. God bless his family and comfort them.
The most ferocious talent, and yet the most gentle spirit. Eileen and I send our condolences to Terry's wonderful circle of friends and loved ones.
My Sincere condolences.
damn, I had hoped Terry would rally back. My condolences to his family and close friends.
Gang,I will always remember the several CES shows that we shared a room with. Terry and I were great friends even before he started making speakers. I remember the first conversation we had and the pictures of a modified Fostex kit that Terry had built. It was amazing since I had made the same one and it looks... well rather shabby next to his.
Terry we will all look you up in the next life!
So difficult to believe that this man, with all his vitality and zest for life and fun, is now gone. Thank goodness all my memories of him are those of his love of music, his high level of art and craftsmanship, his Cain-isms, and his "mad-scientist" smile. His infectious spirit will be missed.
"So difficult to believe that this man, with all his vitality and zest for life and fun, is now gone."Not to mention the one mainly responsible for bringing full-range driver speaker design into the limelight. Some phenomenal products of such design have since come forth, and we thank him for the inspiration. God-speed.

Thoughts from above hit the people down below. There are people in this world who have no place to go
Excerpt from a poem by John Donne............... "Death, be not proud"
........ and soonest, our best men with thee do go
thou art slave to Fate, Kings and Chance
Why swellest thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
and death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die!
