I am one.
Follow Ups:
lots of stuff i dident sell, but i dont like hanging on to stuff i dident personally like, unfortunately that lead to selling some stuff thats worth quite a bit now, i regreat it a bit. one example was a pioneer sx1980 reciver from 1979 i dident care for it much but, its worth a lot more then i sold it for today.
I'm really amazed.
I have this equipment not in use. Three Adcom amps, 5800, 555II, 2535. Preamps: Adcom 565, Marantz Pre/Pro 850(w/tuner and CD player), Sony ES9somethingorother. Speakers:Polk SDA CRS+ & stands, Polk SDA A1, LothX-BS, Snell K-II, Snell Q & its stands, Snell Type D, Sea 4.0 surround system, Edge Audio. Adcom DAC 600. Stax Lamda Pro 3 electorstatic earspeakers and its Class A preamp. Sony CD 300 CD changer. Apex DVD player. Philips 767? SACD/DVD player. Sony 575 SACD player changer. Sony DVD 7000. Sony XBR 55" rear projection TV. Sony flagship 125 watt receiver from '93. Carver Sonic Hologram(C-9). Wait, I just remembered, I lied. I sold two pairs of speakers, JBL Century 100 and Klips C-4 and a Yamaha 950 intergrated amp and gave away a pair of EPI 320 speakers. Nevermind......
Frihed89,I believe I've never really sold anything. I have everything I've bought except the Oracle Delphi II/Alphason turntable that was part trade on a new Delphi III/SME and that was in about 1992 -and things that have failed: Pioneer 434 DVD. I even have the original interconnects and speaker cables I used when I bought my ARC SP8 and D115 in 1985. I was also given things (Dynaco set and Fisher 800) and I have all those !
ARC: SP8, D115, SP10, LS3, D130
McIntosh : MX110, MC240, MR77
Dynaco: PAS3, ST70
Scott: 330D tuner
Revox: B-160 tuner
CDP: Cambridge Audio 640C, 2-Toshiba 3960s
Receivers: Marantz 2235, Marantz 2275, Fisher 800C, Sony 100W remote
Turntables: Oracle III/SME V, Technics SL-D2/Shure V15, Dual 1019/Grado 78
Speakers: Vandersteen 2C, Spectrum 208A (bad woofers), Infinity Primus 360
Other: ART DI/O DAC, Heathkit AC-11 MPX adapter
Wires: AQ and QRC ICs, AQ and Kimber speaker
Tubes: 80- 12AX7s, 80- 6DJ8 family, 45- 12AT7s, 35- 12AU7s and many etc. While I camp out, almost everything is in storage- I'm struggling along like a prisoner with the Audio Research LS-3/D130 and Cambridge Audio 640C- severe LP and tubes deprivation!
I have now only the third TV I've ever owned and I never sold the first two- I gave the 1984 19" Hitachi to a friend (who later gave me his original Dynaco PAS and ST), the 1990 Sony 27" XBR went up in smoke with the Pioneer 434 in 2005, and I have a 32" Sony "Wega". This I will never sell either- I so often feel like lobbing a brick through it- it's end will probably be a long fall onto concrete! I think I'm about one year from a TV-less life.
I actually don't have a lot of sentimental attachment to the audio gear- I generally feel more strongly about cars of which I've owned 40 and sold 38 !
And there's not a lot in the list I would absolutely not part with- probably the SP8 and SP10, and the Oracle would be too expensive to replace with anything better.
The other thing I have all I've ever owned are watches- about 25 from 1890 to 2005 with 6 or 8 Gruen curvexes, three Rolex. I just love them all and they're easy to keep around!
Cheers,
Speaking of rugged tv's. In '77 or '78 I was walking down the sidewalk in Boston when I found a Zenith 19" out for the trash men next to the fire station. It was heavy duty with a steel bezel and chassis. I thought I could fix it so I schlepped it upstairs to my apartment on the fifth floor. We had a party and got drunk and I threw the Zenith out of the window. It fell five stories and landed on the concrete sidewalk AND IT DIDN'T BREAK!
I left it there and a couple of weeks later it was gone.

I have no sentimental or other attachments to audio gear, although I do have memories and for the most part they are positive. It's a piece of equipment. Like a car or a sofa. It's designed to perform a function and when your tastes change or the thing wears out or you get bored or...
I could sell the entire system today and not look back. In fact I sold my entire system a few months ago and replaced with much less expensive gear, not that this means anything in particular.
I also realize everybody else who does audio has their own reasons for doing or not doing what they do. My example is just that-my example and should not be taken out of context.
.
Me either, however I am considering selling a center channel that I have never used.
and it mostly still functions well and sounds good. Two systems owned or watched over by my brother and sister just got stored. And they said come and get them! Not enough space and esp. time. But, I will likely get a McIntosh MA 5100 and MR 66 and a perfect looking Son of Ampzilla back (to monoblock with a 2nd one).
Also some of my original gear, such as an ARC Sp-3, Keith Monk tonearm, or Rectilinear IIIs, would need repair at best.
from your discards. ;-)

Nothing in the past 20 years. I have a rather large closet set aside for walks thru my past. Every once in a while I reincorporate a piece into my system to see what progress has been made (if any).
en-tee
I likewise never have, myself preferring to incorporate the older equipment I have like : Adcom GFA 7000 amplifier / gfp 750 preamp along with Onkyo TX747 dolby digital hometheatre reciever with preouts and jbl speakers ,various sources and cabling in a secondary system in my home. I cant really bear the physcological factor of selling something that I purchased brand new to someone else for a loss $$, plus like most people that have a passion for this hobby my equipment gets plenty of TLC and one would be hard pressed to see any difference in any of my equipment from the day I took it out of its sealed packing box, oh and I even have all my origional packing materials for all of my stuff and since Ive got two hometheatres -thats a lot of boxes!!Today I really enjoy my Plinius system and I suppose if Id purchased it used on the Agon or something similar I might be more inclined to part and roll various equipment but I put a lot of time and effort into my current main setup and could never part with any of it. About the only thing that intrigues me at all is perhaps some triode tube amplifiers from Lamm or Bat or maybe a First Sound preamp but again ---no selling--EVER!! Regards ///Tim W...
Does that count?

I too tend not to sell any of my gear. Unfortunately, however, I don't have lots of space to spare so the habbit may be coming to an end soon.It is a good way of knowing that you are heading in the right direction when you upgrade. If you can pull out something you bought 20 years ago and it's better than what you are using now - then there's a problem. I'm glad to say that I have only experienced this with CD players when finding that a worse sounding CD player is actually a better transport when used with a DAC.
I am very very curious about the Dac 2.1 because it is not a copy of any AN production Dac as far as I can see. Will it be better? I would dearly love to see a listening comparison (once it is available) with one of the higher AN models (3-up, maybe).
I am curious too!I know that it is going to be highly configurable with I/V transformers, dual power supply (digital+analog), the different levels and there is mentioning of a signature digital board.
It does appear to be quite different from the production models but is designed essentially by the same people. I think upgrade paths have been kept in mind too - i.e. using as many components from the original 1.1 kit to make upgrading as easy and cheap as possible for existing kit owners.
I must say, however, it looks mighty impressive. I already have the M2 power supply in my phono kit and know that it is very very quiet - something that can't be said of the dac 1.1 analog section.
I own the new 1.1xMkII Signature and i love the sound...but this is intriguing and promises better.
.......……..I am one to hoard possessions.I have never sold any of my personal audio equipment ever. I have given various pieces away but most I have kept. I have a storage room with numerous amps, receivers, TT’s, CD’s, DVD’s, VCR’s, TV’s, cables, speakers etc.
I am just not into selling gear from my hobby.
I never consider the resale value of anything I buy except for shares and real estate.

I can think of at least four pieces of equipment (sold to finance "upgrades") that I wish I had back again. Let's see, ML Sequel IIs; Walsh 4s, Tandberg 3016A; that Marantz tuner with the oscilloscope....
...
Do you have a lot of money and storage space, or are you the rare bird who doesn't change components? I deeply regret having sold my ProAc Response 2s's to partially fund a new pair of speakers, but some folks actually keep their system intact for long periods of time. I've noticed some very long lists of equipment in Inmate Systems. Only what's actually hooked up is in the system, not what's in the closet or on static display. You seem to have a real system.
I don't upgrade. I out-grade. That is, i broaden existing systems. When i am finished, i start a new system in another room. Right now, i have a main SS system (CDP, Integrated, spkrs) to which i am adding tube breadth (first the CDP/Dac, then the head amp, next the amps) so I can play both through the same speakers. I have a bedroom system (old CDP + SS headphone amp) that i may broaden into a dual headphone small active speaker system (and maybe later add a small amp). Then I have a summer house with room for a main and bedroom system. And so on. Also, I buy new stuff very slowly. I only bought one product I didn't like, so i bought a soldering iron and now i am upgrading it. Oh, I am always in the process of upgrading cables, because i always need more of them to hook up more stuff. And I have only been doing this a short while. Eventually, I will give what i can't use away to my children and step-children.
