My wife teaches aerobics and yoga and is going to a new place with no stereo system. So she is in need of a portable cd player (ghetto blaster). Can anyone recommend a good unit that will play fairly loud and clear? Also are there any portables with pitch control? Thank you in advance.
Follow Ups:
The small JVC is called something with 55. It does not have tweeters and woofers, only full range driver. Switch all sound enchance functions off.
It even sounds nice on small classical and jazz.
I bought one myself after checking a lot of the BOOoom, Tizz, ear splitting two way boxes. The Bang&Olufsen portable is expensive, but I have been tempted myself. It looks so cool, and sound to match. Fine for the summer house.
I have an original JVC Bass "Tube" boom box. It's one of the best units out there. Real bass; I always say better than most people's home stereo.I bring it to rental houses and it always sounds better than what's in the house. Really perfect for Aerobics as it can CRANK the dance tunes.
It's biamped with a 52W bass amp, portable madness. Burns through 10 D cells on one CD so keep it plugged in. (You can, and will, dial down the bass reinforcement at times.)
It's built in that armored ABS style and can really take a hit. I purchased mine for around $150 at CostCo. Has a remote, CD, Tape, Radio, alarm/clock/timer, record radio with timer...
A steal. I think the line of JVC bass tubes has evolved a bit, but the quality of the sound from my original model is surprising.

when I read the original post the first time. Surprised me to find that you were the only inmate to find the term potentially offensive.
Of course, in the world of teaching aerobics and yoga, one's perspective on the world is probably somewhat limited: Didn't you think Buffy's new leotards were just to-die-for??
Ya gotta figure the original poster wasn't trying to offend anyone and you go and turn it into a personal attack on his wife. Way to go. Real big of you.

Somebody better tell these guys and looking around it ain't going to be me.
The real important issues are the environment, civil rights and above all freesom of speech!
Cut-Throat
My wife and I just read this and we about fell on the floor! He he he he!! I guess I grew up with the term so it never dawned on me that this doesn't fly anymore in this PC world. In many ways we have advanced well in the area of humanistic moral virtues, but then again we also look pretty darn sterile, anal and stupid.
What's politically incorrect about "ghetto blaster"?

(I admit it's all a matter of degree. Do you? Or exactly what do you mean by "politically correct"?)

It's their choice. They can if they want, but they decide if they want the consequences.Frosty
I agree with you that people should be able to say what they want, essentially to the degree that Justice Douglas argued. Of course, the right wing generally finds his positions repugnant. True, there are some right wingers who are actual libertarians, but not many....The person I replied to, and yourself, say, "Who cares if someone gets upset at a post or an offensive term?"
Okay, I'll play by those rules with you. I'm willing to put up with the trivial consequences.
However, for me, there is a moral distinction between insulting an individual, pompous, disingenuous jerk versus insulting an entire class or group of people, only some of whom may be jerks.
BTW, no one answered my question about what is meant by "politically corect". For example, when Senator Santorum and fellow morons try to censor the internet, they "are just being politically correct", are they not?
If not, why not? What does that term mean? Why don't you ask Limbaugh or O'Reilly what you think about this, and get back to me?

"The person I replied to, and yourself, say, "Who cares if someone gets upset at a post or an offensive term?""I never said that. And who actually finds that term offensive and for what reason?
"However, for me, there is a moral distinction between insulting an individual, pompous, disingenuous jerk versus insulting an entire class or group of people, only some of whom may be jerks."
How is the word "ghettoblaster" insulting an entire class of people? And what does any of them being jerks have anything to do with this?
"BTW, no one answered my question about what is meant by "politically corect". For example, when Senator Santorum and fellow morons try to censor the internet, they "are just being politically correct", are they not?"
Yeah, they are, because politically correct is when no one is offended, but we all know that is just about impossible, especially regarding something like the internet. So they are just trying to be politically correct, but are just being dumb about it.
"If not, why not? What does that term mean? Why don't you ask Limbaugh or O'Reilly what you think about this, and get back to me?"
I don't see how that would help anything.

In case you look, good work picking up on that obvious pun in the subject heading. Or did you even manage that?

You can't please everyone.Do you care that your post offends me?
Like arnach said, who cares?

people do not have the right to not be offended. Forget who said that, but it's pretty good.
Matthew
and I won't let anyone to call it a 'boombox'.
'cause it blasts, not booms.
and you called my stupid dog a mentally challenged four legged friend!!! He's gonna show when he's challenged.

If the term applied to you, you might not let it roll off so easily.
To be honest with you,In the "real world" I have little respect for those who do not speak their mind.
Those who do speak their mind may have differing viewpoints from me, may not be "politcally correct", but I respect them because they have the guts to put their differing viewpoint out there.
So in other words, somebody may say something that I totally disagree with, and may even be offensive, but I find it refreshing. In this day and age people are so weak and afraid of taking any sort of stand.
People who have to guard their speech because they are afraid of offending others, and thus do not get their point across, are pretty worthless, in my opinion.
Apologize for being off topic.

sorry, could not resist.
I love it.Actually JVC makes a box called "Kaboom Box" and they definitely rock. They even have a mic/guitar input on the back panel, come with a remote control, and have built in powered "subwoofers". Kind of tube shaped boom box, built like the old "bazooka tube" subs for cars. These things are built like tanks and sound pretty good to, considering what they are. I think new they run about $300.00
