Does anyone here own one? Essentially nothing in the archives. What does it compare to, besides X-RAY and E-624? Who sells it (in Canada, even better)? The web site seems flakey of late and they don't answer e-mail. TIA for any info.
Audio Advisor sale the A3CD for $1000 (US). I ordered one and senty it back, because I found a E624 mint for $550. The 2 are 100% identical inside. And both disappointed me. Lack of bass.
I you want one, and can wait a little bit, I will probably sale my E624 soon. It is in perfect condition, but buy I recomment it only if you don't cre about bass, or if your system is bass heavy.
In the other hand, the medium and high frequencies are very good : soft AND detailed.Yves Simon
Thanks for the source, I don't usually look there. I wish I could hear one of these at home, but that's not typically done around here, except for cables. Usually you buy, and then return for credit at the dealer if you don't like. That's why I'd prefer a dealer in Canada, to avoid border return hassles. I guess as far as sound then, I can go by the E624, which I haven't heard either. They're sure charging a lot extra for the A3 packaging. However, I'm one of those who actually doesn't mind paying more for a solid package.
Hmmm, you said that the A3 is very bass light, I'm not going to say you are wrong, afterall, it's your opinion, not mine. I just would like to say that What Hi*Fi recommended the A3 for its excellent bass as well as overall good sound. If you don't mind me asking, what does your system consist of, and how do you have it set up in your room? I just can't help but wonder why one person would say bass light, and the other bass heavy, that's all.Take care,
Frosty
I was astonished that the M.F. was so bass light. Forget about my system setup : I compared the M.F. with other CD-Players and DACs in the same system, with speakers and with a Sennheiser HD-580.
I used the same cheap but decent interconnects (Monster 250i). It is possible that the M.F. is more sensitive to the interconnects than others, but I don't think so.Yves Simon
Maybe. It can't drive the inputs of the 47 Labs Gaincard:
too bright and sibilant then. Everything was fine when an Orca
linestage was inserted.
