Still amazing! I think I have 150-200 hours on my DAC. I can sit and listen to CDs for hours and hours without the least bit of fatigue. All of my CDs sound better...even old mid-80's CDs, like Little Feat's first album. They may not sound as good as something that's been recorded and mastered well, but they sound much better than they ever sounded before. Neil Young's "Harvest" still sounds terribly dull and flat, but the EVS does take the info that's there (lows and mids mostly) and make them as lifelike as possible.Since I last wrote about the Millenium DAC (around 50 hours, I think), I have switched transports from my Pioneer DV-05 (stock) to my old Denon 2650, and switched from Apogee Wyde-Eye coax to a Cardas Lightning 15.
The Denon is noticeably better than the unmodifed Pioneer DV-05, but I suppose that's not too surprising.
At first, I was somewhat disappointed by the Cardas Lightning 15. It had a quieter background, was much more up-front, and seemingly more detailed than the Apogee Wyde-Eye, but it didn't seem to be musical. The soundstage seemed a litte confused, and the high-end wasn't too smooth. All that changed after a day or two of constant playing. I still enjoy the Apogee...it's very pleasant, detailed, and musical (and $30!). The Cardas is entirely different. It is more forward (feeling like 1st-3rd row), silent background, huge soundstage, great space between instruments and voices, and very easy to listen to. The DAC still sounds amazing, and it sounds incredibly different with the Cardas cables. The Apogee was a huge improvement over the Better Cables composite video cable, and the Lightning 15 is another huge step forward (though I could easily use the Apogee and be very happy).
I took Ric's recommendation for isolation of the DAC. So far, I have the DAC sitting on bubble-wrap (the thick stuff...plenty included with my DAC!), which is on a piece of 3/4" MDF board, which is on four Black Diamond Racing cones (2-#3 and 2-#4...I had them laying around for years). I'd rather not go insane, so I'll probably let it stay that way. Besides...I'm extremely happy with the sound. I haven't compared this set-up to the plain DAC, but I did compare the DAC on bubble-wrap to the plain DAC and I preferred the bubble-wrap. Ric assumes that we're going to isolate them, so he uses cheap rubber feet on the bottom. He recommends a minimum of bubble wrap and/or an inner tube, butcher block, and good cones for isolation.
Has anyone tried any other cables, or forms of vibration control?

I'm listening to mine right now and it sounds pretty darn good. I wrote a review a couple of weeks ago comparing it to my old Monarchy 22C. My comments still are valid as far as I am concerned. At some point (not real soon) I will try the Assemblage D2D with it to see if additional improvements can be gained. For now I am very content and feel no need to do additional tweaking with my system.
I am assuming you would be using it for it's jitter attenuator and format convertor? There would be no point using it for it's upsampling abilities as the Millenium 2 already upsamples making the upsampling in the d2d redundant.
BTW, what is the Assemblage product you refer to all about. I hope to have my EVS DAC in a couple of weeks. God bless.
I will be impessed. otherwise, be careful.
