(The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask?)I ordered a "scratch & dent" CD player & it came today & I opened the box: no owners manual & no power cord. The male AC in is a 2 prong inlet (no ground). The male end of the power cord off of my old DAC fits the receptacle. But the power cord off of that DAC is set up with a the middle ground. I cannot see why this would be at all problematic until I get the right power cord, but I have thought that before & wound up screwing stuff up.
(I realize that I could put an adapter in between the AC outlet in the wall & the male end of the power cord, but there is really no reason that I should need to do that, is there?)
I apologize for this question if it is completely stupid, & first thing in the morning I am calling the vendor up & telling them that A) I need a power cord & B) asking them what I just asked here, but if I get a salesman who doesn't know & tells me, "Of course it's okay," & I find out the hard way it isn't & the salesman denies that he ever told me that . . .
Thanks, & I apologize again.

Nice score! on the Marantz SA-10.
I took the plunge, Fantja.
A killer player. Keep me posted as you massasge it into your system.
I wanted to audition the SA-10, but one was not to be found here in the Southeast region. IL and WI were the closest dealers/retailers with a player in the showroom.
Fantja, since you seem interested in my impressions & perceptions of my "new" SA10, I will preface this by telling you that I spent a significant portion of my adult life (up until 2006) as an aircraft mechanic, & I didn't spend enough time worrying about hearing protection. Ergo, over the years I have experienced some hearing loss.Which probably begs the question as to why I even bother pursuing this hobby & buying the gear that I have bought.
But I will say that I can hear the difference between sounds crappy & sounds pretty good.
Unfortunately, I am not articulate enough, nor can I often put my finger at absolute certain (or definite) points of reference. Broadly speaking, I am finding the SA10 (when I have good source material) to be more musical & to exude more "presence." (I put "presence" in quotes because, again, I am not articulate enough to explain exactly what I mean.) I have noticed, on certain CDs, tiny bits of detail coming out that I was probably hearing, but hadn't really paid attention to until I heard the CD on the SA10.
One specific example that I actually can give is: I have a Sheffield Labs test & setup CD that features (among other things) Doug Sax & Rodger Skoff doing a walk around. Now in general terms, in my small listening room, I get an enhanced perception of the depth & breadth of the room Rodger & Doug are coming from. (At least I THINK I do.) But, until I heard them walking around on the SA10, I was never paying attention to the sound of their footsteps. I have no doubt that I was always HEARING those footsteps, but I was not really NOTICING them before. One of them is carrying a shaker thingy that he uses to punctuate his position in the room, & there are moments when he is walking that the shaker thingy inadvertently clatters just a little bit. This is also something that I am sure I was always HEARING, but just not NOTICING.
With the above paragraph typed, perhaps I was listening closer the first time I fired the SA10 up & put Doug & Rodger in. & then of course, once you've heard something, it is kind of hard to unhear it. But, on the other side of that coin, I have played that walk around at least one hundred times (easily) & I never had that (real or imagined) epiphany before.
For now, with my inability to type my aural experiences descriptively, that's all I can give you. But as I continue listening to this thing, if I should have any "aha" moments, I will keep you posted.

Thank You for the review. This player will fit nicely into your system.
I used to own B&W 805 myself. The SA-10 is a killer player that will bring out the best digital presentation and sound.
I am still getting my ear5s wet, fantja.
I am not (yet) a streaming type of gu8y, so my sources have been aluminum & gold redbook & SACD discs. Some of them make me think, "Wow, I have taken a giant step forward," while others leave me thinking, "Ho hum."

Hi,
Are you talking about a Type C7 or C9 power cord connection on your new DAC?
Tom
Actually it is a new CD player & the power cord I have is from the old DAC.
But I don't know what the difference is between a C7 & C9 power cord?
The AC receptacle on the new CD player is the same shape as the one on my old DAC, the difference being: the new CD player does not have the third ground wire.
I realize that the third ground wire isn't directly hooked to a circuit, that's why I felt apologetic for the question, but like I said, I've taken things for granted before & been wrong.
MD does have quite a range of cables for consideration if you're dac cable does not work out. Check the cable going into your TV. It may be the right fit. At least for now, while you audition the player.
It's a double insulated figure 8 (2 prong) that you need for plugging into the player. The end that plugs into the AC wall outlet is usually only 2 prongs also, but some have 3 prongs as per pics here.
"I know just enough to get into trouble. But not enough to get out of it."
MD said to use one of my 3 prong cords to make sure it works (it does) & to get back with them & they would take care of the power cord. (They owe me a remote also.) I did tell them, when I called this AM, that if "this side up" is critical, the CD player was packed upside down.
Jonesy, thanks so much for the downloads! The guy from MD sounded surprised that the start up guide was not enclosed, but said that I should download the users manual. Thanks again--you know more about my gear than I do!
Here's a chart showing the various power cord types.
If there's no ground then you'll see Type C1 or C7 connections (10amp) or Type C9 or C17 (15amp) power cords.
If there's a ground connection then you'll see Type C5 (10amp) and Types C13 or C15/15A (15amp) power cords.
For high demand devices (like a big power amp) you might see Type C19 or C21 (20amp) power cords.
So when shopping for power cords you have to know which type connector the device requires.
Tom
I don't think it should be a problem. Just keep your eye on it and if you see smoke be sure to unplug it immediately.
Good luck,
John Elison
