Sounds like this product wasn't ready for prime time.

Follow Ups:
I am not discounting any of Chris' travails but there have not been any such issues with any of the 3 exaSound DACs that I have used nor have either of two of my friends who own exaSound DACs. They have been absolutely stable and reliable with HQPlayer, ROON and/or JRiver.Of course, we are all using them with Win-based servers (including a bootcamped MacMini), not MacOS.

It is a little tricky to get going because there are so many variables to consider and the documentation is dense and spare at the same time. I would leave it out of the operations and just run the e38 from Audirvana or whatever you prefer.
Once that is stable, you can insert HQPlayer.
My remaining problems with HQ Player are more at the annoyance level rather than at the fundamental level. ;-)
My comment had nothing to do with HQPlayer. It was directed at the inability of Audirvana (something I have not used in years) to use ASIO in order to access HQPlayer.
