Actually you need two in a practical implementation ( though not timing the circuit simultaneously) excepting for simple CD only systems. One to provide a frequency of 44.1 kHz and one 48.0 kHz.
The use of a single clock for a complex sequence of devices is not simple to implement. Most importantly it only works if the timing of the incoming source is running in relation to that single clock. This can be difficult to arrange with computerised audio where computers or network streamers/servers do not have a word clock in/out (the very expensive top of range Aurender W20 being the only exception known to me) and where the DAC may be isochronous.

Yeah you're right.
To clarify I meant between the source and Dac chip.
All you need is a clock as close to the dac chip as possible.
Feed is with an asynchronous protocol and all "outside" clocks don't matter at all.
