can owners of amr cd-77 players let me know what they think of this cdp from a music and quality of build.
Follow Ups:
The build is bombproof and exudes serious, understated luxury and fanatical attention to detail.
But the sound is what's important - and here I found that the many reviews which extolled its "analog lover's" sonics were on the money - there is an ease to the presentation, musical flow, unforced detail, and center-of-the-earth bass extension. The many over/up-sampling choices and the isosynchronous USB input also make it a versatile performer (through I agree with AMR that Digital Master II w/o any up/oversampling is best).
For me, it's a statement piece and hopefully my final CDP.

Is the 77.1 leaps and bounds better sonically than the unmodified version? In what ways?
Hi,
Please allow me to clarify, the CD-77.1 introduced several changes, including different output coupling capacitors, a different digital board with hard soldered (not socketed) TDA1541A DAC and other changes (Chassis, Transformers etc.).
It also included provisions for offering an USB AND SPDIF Input (instead of the USB only CD-77), though most CD-77.1 where shipped USB only (upgrades to SPDIF are field fitable).
The sonic differences from the CD-77 to the CD-77.1 are more evolutionary than revolutionary, but the CD-77.1 is notably better in a direct, level matched AB Test.
There is no simple upgrade path from CD-77 to CD-77.1, as very few parts of the CD-77 can be retained for a full upgrade. Some owners arranged for partial upgrades though.
For any other question please contact the Distributor for your country (you can find them via the AMR Website). I would also suggest to check the history of any machine offered 2nd hand with the local distributor (as they may already have upgrades), they will need the serial number of the machine in question.

Technically, the 77.1 is not "modified" so much as it's updated to the current specs. I've never heard the '77 so cannot compare it to the '77.1.

I don't own it, but I've seen it at the last several audio shows. Very nice piece.

Hi
A friend of mine owns one of these and I have heard it in his system numerous times.
Certainly well built but in his system it produces quite a large boost in the bass midrange area, very similar to that I also expereienced with the Linn Sondek LP12
I own a Reimyo CDT - 777 Transport and DAP - 999EX DAC and find the combination I have more musical and much more realistic than the AMR.
To clarify I have heard both of these in my friends system but not both in my own.
Another very nice CD source I have heard and liked has been the Audio Note Transports and Dacs.
If I was currently in the market at this level though I think I would be looking seriously at the Playback CDP
Cheers
