I'll second your opinion on the Creek CD43. When I bought mine about a year ago, the salesperson was really trying to push me to get the Planet, but when I heard the Creek CD43, I was immediately sold on it. The main "improvement" over the Planet is that the Creek gives you DETAIL - perhaps this is partly due to the upgraded 24 bit DAC? The Creek has ALL the wonderful attributes of the Planet but does a much better job at portraying the more subtle nuances of the music. The only "downside" that I experienced was the relatively long waiting period (about 5 months!) for the company to ship one to the US - this was last year; hopefully the manufacturer has geared up for increased production of this wonderful machine. As far as I'm concerned, this will be the last CDP I purchase until I get a SACD player (maybe Creek will have one of these available someday??)
Just for the sake of argumnt. I recently bought a Rega Planet and I don't understand why people think it's not detailed. The detail is there, it's just not forward in the presentation or amplfied in some way. I'm not talking "forward" as in harsh or fatiguing, but a lot of digital presents details "up front." If I connect my MSB Link DAC to the Planet it immediately seems there is more detail because the MSB presents the detail way forward and up front. Switching back the Planet it's easily noticeable that the detail is all there but it's laid back in presentation. I could understand in a more uncontrolled situation, in unfamiliar surroundings perhaps, that the Planet would seem less detailed. I don't see the Planet as a player lacking in detail, it's more something of a matter of taste. Do you want your detail presented to you in an easy to hear and up front manner or slightly laid back. Associated equipment and cabling can also be a factor with something like the Planet, where a highly revealing system will do it complete justice and a less revealing, perhaps less detailed system will not do it justice.I'm not a Planet owner trying to viciously defend the Planet here. I bought this player only a couple weeks ago and am just now understanding what kind of player it really is.

Just to set the record straight, in no way was I saying that the Rega is not an excellent CDP, which it is. It's just that, at least to my ears, I preferred the sound of the Creek over the Rega with the equipment that was used in the set-up that I heard (and eventually bought - which incidentally included the Creek 4330R amp). In fact the differences between them were more subtle than earth-shaking. By the way, when I refer to the ability of the Creek to reproduce "low-level" detail, what I mean is really the ability to portray subtle nuances of the music, which can be manifested in ways such as soundstaging, etc. - not necessarily the kind of forward "detail" that you refer to with the MSB Link DAC. It may also be the two Creeks just happen to be a better match for each other beause of design synergy, etc. In another system, the Rega (or AH! Joeb, etc, etc) may give better results. The Rega is clearly a superb CDP and had I not heard the Creek, I would have purchased it above all other CDPs that I listened to.
Hi Sean,
If you have the Planet already, you don't have to worry. It is still one of the best budget players. The small criticism of the Planet is the slight smaller sounstage and confuse when playing complex classical music. Apart from that, the rythm, smoothness etc. it is still one of the best for its price.Paul Lam
