I have been looking to hell and gone for the sample rates on the Arcam CD92, which I own and like very much, especially after the power supply got modded.
That said, I am auditioning a Cary 303/300. It has sample rates up the wazoo. It would be nice to set the Cary to the same rate as the Arcam so a proper shoot-out could be had.
Any information would be appreciated. Toss in any thoughts you have about the Cary too, particularly about its reliability.
Thanks.

ive had 2 or 3 92's and still regret selling, dont get all nit picky you have a classic player that has more then stood the test of time play it until it dies.
You're right. The Arcam is excellent, especially with the modded power supply. That said, I got the Cary. It bested in Arcam in detailed playback. Even so, the Arcam will probably be put in the office system. There is no way I am going to get rid of it. It is too good a unit and I couldn't get enough by selling it to justify letting it go.
Thanks for your thoughts.
The biggest differences in CD players isn't so much the sample rate and chips used - but in the power supply and analog output stage.I have owned the Arcam CD192 ... and heard the Cary.
The right comparison is with each "at their best"
I suspect if you love treble, the Cary is the way to go.

As mentioned, the Arcam had its power supply significantly upgraded and that made a major difference. That is probably why the Cary hasn't blown the Arcam out of the water. I'm having a hard time figuring out if the Cary is better or just different.
It's difficult trying to figure out the Cary "at its best" because there are 5 or 6 sampling rates and the tube option with the same number of sampling options.
Right now, the big question is whether the minor upgrade offered by the used Cary (if it is indeed an upgrade) is worth $1300.
Thanks for the comments.
I owned a CD192 for years. I loved it, but it is not in the same class as the Cary 303/300. Just isn't.You will get more detail, clarity and frequency extension with the Cary. And unless you are after a particular tone above all else - I'd go Cary.
Both are great players, but the Cary 303/300 is in another league.

I decided to get the Cary. In the end it bested the CD92. Although both are detailed, certain details were heard with the Cary that were not heard with the CD92.
Thanks.
I bet you won't regret it!
The improvement above the CD92 will be increasingly subtle (but more important) - and key for that will be things like detail, bass response, and non glare treble extension.
