Last year after i bought my dac, i asked Howard Mandel if it could be used with a jitter reduction device. He said the dac runs at 24/384 when used with the matching transport and anything else would degrade the performance by 50%. I just talked with an engineer from dcs who found this interesting enough to look into it. I guess i need a new transport.
I can't comment on the new 24/96 version but the older Altis Reference DAC definitely sounded better with the Camelot Pro Dragon II between the DAC and transport. I understand camelot has a new 24/96 version of the Dragon, but I haven't heard it yet.Myles B. Astor

Altis claime <10ps jitter from any transport. This jitter figure is stretching my credulity index. Anybody know if a disinterested third party has tested this unit's jitter performance?
Dumb question: out of curiosity, what tubes does the Altis DAC use? Their website makes no mention of them. Weird.
Depends on whether it's the two tube (no gain) version or the four tube (high gain) analog board version. The two tube board uses JAN Sylvania 12AX7s which sound pretty good; the other uses 12Au7s but I don't remember what brand. I'll tell you next week cause I'm getting my DAC upgraded and the four tube board installed at the same time.Myles B. Astor

They're JAN 7308's i think.I think the Mullards are supposed to be better. Right now i'm using the four tube board because the two tube board is currently the latest cap upgrade.
