Rumor has it that management has not approved a budget for anyone from Stereophile to travel to Munich to cover the show. Coverage will apparently be supplied by one of their foreign correspondents, probably
Paul Messenger.
This is seems like rather unhappy news, and not a very indicator.
Follow Ups:
AudioStream will be represented by editor Michael Lavorgna.
Audiostream is Stereophile. Yes or no, and what is the exact connections?
AudioStream is not Stereophile. They are both owned by the same company: The Enthusiast Network (TEN).
Why can't they share the same reporter/journalist?
My prediction is 50-70% of Lavorgna's posts will be about MQA.
Already at it.
"We then did a comparison between Ray Charles and Milt Jackson's "So Long Blues" from Soul Brothers; non-MQA vs. MQA. I will withhold any subjective comments since this was hardly a scientific test, but I will say that the MQA version sounded a lot better."
Of course it did.
Thank you Steve.
Paul Messenger is one of the best around. So hardly a come down. He was the editor of HI FI Choice U believe. Not too shabby at all.
His ears were covered by his long hair and I have never fully trusted his reviews.
I don't know if he has now removed his ear cover to reveal more hf.
I find his writing quite helpful. In part that may be due to his clear and consistent use of the language: in that, he reminds me a bit of Gordon Holt and John Crabbe (rip).

I just had this Micro suction ear Cleaning treatment
and after the ping test repeated/etc my results and clarity was astounding
I'm 76 and now 2db at 8kHz--graph printout to prove it--wow
Recommended guys--do it in your town!

With so many audio shows to cover this year, we are concentrating our
resources on those we think most relevant to a US-based readership. We
cover all of our writers' travel expenses covering shows, whether they be
staff or freelance.

Paul Messenger has written Munich reports for Stereophile for several years
and will be doing so again this year.

Where oh where is the Messenger of Munich?
that Munich has become among the most important shows of the year, and the primary focus of many European manufacturers when introducing new products. Nearly all of these products will be sold in the US.....
Begs the question of why wouldn't this show be "relevant to a US-based readership" ?
Streaming and analogue coverage will be beneficial, albeit not via the main website or magazine. I assume Mr. Messenger will cover everything else for SP ?
There will be plenty of coverage of this show from other publications. Who really cares what Stereophile does?

I was thinking that the significant product launches would be repeated at
the LA Show 2 weeks later.

Those were my thoughts exactly. As a matter of fact, many are predicting CES for high end audio will be phased out, and Munich will be the The Place.
JVS was sent last year...TAS is sending 4-5 writers. Even bloggers are
going.
Meant to say in yesterday's posting that we are sending Michael Lavorgna,
editor of our AudioStream site, and Michael Fremer, editor of our
AnalogPlanet site, to Munich. Their coverage will appear on those sites, not
Stereophile, of course.

Jana could have been sent for some beautiful pictures.
Cheers
Bill
It is good to know that TEN is sending them. Always enjoy MF's coverage.
How about taking a break from this pathetic crusade? Grow up. Move on. Read a different magazine. Play sports. Talk to you friends. Stare at the mirror. Enough already.
Geez, and I'm not even a subscriber.
