I hear you. The problem is that YouTube rigorously polices videos for
copyrighted music. If we include music for which we do not own the
copyright, it gets flagged as a violation.

As I understand it, when a video is flagged as copyright violation, until
an appeal is submitted and judged upon, the revenue generated by that
video goes to the copyright owner, not the creator of the video. As any such
appeal might be successful only a relatively long time after the video has
passed its "sell-by date," and as Stereophile's ability to do what it does
depends on its content generating revenue for itself, not for third parties,
that rules out our using copyrighted material in our videos.

That's correct. Our ability to offer free website content, including videos,
is critically dependent on that content generating revenue. Less revenue
means less content. Where we have permission from the rights owner, we
do include copyrighted material. See the record review linked below, for
example.
