Hi,
If the high end audio world isn't all about eye candy how do you explain Robert Hartley's Absolute Sounds review of the Schitt Yggdrasil DAC in the latest issue.
Price no object this is one of the 3 best DAC's he's ever heard. The price is 2,300 dollars.
The Yaggdrasil is no Sandra Bullock to look at to me but that sound statement RH made is of the ultimate praise. The other 2 were 19,000 and 35,000. For this review to be of use to me, if I trust RB's ears, is mentally magic marker out and endless list of DAC's in the 2,301 to 18,999 seen in Absolute Sounds yearly compilation issue. There"s a lot of contenders in that area. How will that statement effect ad revenue and sales in that range?
Stereophile has one of those issues too and a review by Herb Reichert on that DAC a couple issues back. By saving my issues I can make an A/B comparison.
So to me the high end audio market has just become eye candy with sound not so much the selling point.
More important to me now are measurements. Stick with them John Atkinson and please write an article in your mag about what your evaluation gear is and how the uninformed can benefit from reading it. High Fidelity mag. used to show graphs and charts but I know your gear is a little different now.
I think the adjectives have all been played, Zesty was one used in another review in the mag. It was in the last pages of the dictionary. I looked it up to see if the word soap came up. No luck....thanks Mark Korda
Follow Ups:
If this is a R2R DAC, then it makes sense. The proper way to decode signals (in the analog domain).
Remember, typically R2R dacs measure poorer than Delta/Sigma dacs but in my opinion sound better. In fact my system with a R2R dac and all tubes probably measures worse than most DS dac and solid state based systems systems yet my system is the best system I have ever heard and has been confirmed by many people who have heard it. In our opinion
