The conclusion in part states, "I believe this so strongly that I recommend a simple high-value music system that I know I could live with forever... for a total cost of $5497."
High-value? Perhaps. Total cost? No.
The listed components, which included the Yggdrasil DAC, omits cabling and more importantly a source component. I could speculate about the reviewer's intensions but that's bewildering.

And for just $4,000
Parasound Halo Integrated driving those same KEF LS50 speakers.
The Halo Integrated includes a DAC that does DSD plus it even includes an MM/MC phono preamp.
I've heard the JC1 driving the LS50 (and the KEF 'Blades') at RMAF this last year. The KEF guy claims little or no difference in sound driving the LS50 with lower powered Parasound amps.
For just $1000 one could go with the Emotiva TA100 ($300) integrated Amp(Analog Devices AD1955 24/192 DAC plus MM/MC phono pre included) and ELAC UniFi UB5 which even leaves a couple bucks for cheap cables.
Now THAT'S something worth picking at!
;-)
Wish the TA300 was $300 - $399 now. :-(
