CABLE first!"Perhaps no other company have extolled the power cable so exuberantly as Nordost as being the most important in the system and I am sure that many of you will have seen their demonstrations of this at HiFi shows around the world. Having tested the theory myself many times it is something that I wholeheartedly agree with ..." Chris Thomas, Hi-Fi+ 87 : Mar 2012
Interestingly, Nordhost's "press reviews and articles" section features 19 articles, all from Hi-Fi+.

Of course if you have no budget left for speakers, amps etc. you won't have any sound either...
I tried Nordost Valhalla interconnects and they made everything sound a bit fake hifi. Overly lit and the top to bottom balance shifted distinctly towards the highs. They do sound different but I am pretty sure it isn't right.
"I tried Nordost Valhalla interconnects and they made everything sound a bit fake hifi."
Isn't that like taking a car out for a test drive one wheel at a time?
The whole point of the review was that you should approach these things systematically, not piecemeal. One of the best things I did with my system is move from a haphazard collection of cones, sandboxes and squash balls under my equipment to just using Cardas blocks throughout. The second-best thing I did was get rid of the random collection of wires from different brands to just using Cardas throughout. I have no idea why it does what it does, but it bestows some kind of rightness to the sound that it didn't have before.
That came from listening to the big Swedish guy from Nordost doing one of his demonstrations, trying Nordost as a complete cable loom, not liking what that did and shopping around for the right coherent approach for me.
"The whole point of the review was that you should approach these things systematically"
I don't think Chris Thomas intended this as a review, rather, as a celebration, an exaltation, of Nordost cable. If he had meant it as a review, he would have written it in a more detached tone, and would have tried to say something meaningful about the relation between the amp and speakers and the cable.
I think he got it about spot on. You are still thinking of 'insert cable, hear change' instead of what happens to the whole system if you restructure the wired environment in which the components reside.Nordost didn't do it for me because I don't like the way the Nordost environs presents leading edges. For me, the Cardas wired environment is a better fit. This guy patently prefers the Nordost environment, and I thought he described that well.
He also concludes that the current Nordost environment has a more balanced presentation than before, which piques my interest. I'm generally happy living in the Cardas space, but there's always room for further investigation.

Reading stuff 'out of context' can make for hilarious arguements..
So keeping the idea within context. of tweaks and upgrades. then perhaps the opinion is not so unreasonable.
What actually follows is "though I do understand that it is an ideological step too far for many", see for your self .
Out of context allows anyone tostart up shit about anything.
All I was writingwas if one botheredto make the sesible and natural connection.. all the foofaraw would never happen.

Chris Thomas's Hi-Fi+ article also informs us that "all Nordost cables are terminated at the factory in the US and cannot be re-terminated anywhere else if the full performance is to be maintained. Because of this, second-hand offers of one metre interconnects that have been home-fashioned from hacked down longer lengths are best avoided."
As soon as my "power pole tweak" starts selling, it will negate the importance of those 'over priced' necklaces!
Yup, just paint a little super tweak soulution on your power pole or home circuit breaker box and all cables will then be able to carry electrical signal....perfectly.
;D
I say it's the )2 level in the room. Have you noticed how much better your system sounds when you are not asphyxiating?
