I recommended the 8800 for power amplification in and of itself rather than instead of the FP-S55N, which is based on the Nano Liquid solution technology of the Nanotec #306, so the designs are similar. You simply have another option to choose from, since the 8800 rivals more expensive power cords for power amplification.

Hi Duster,
You said "
The Furutech FP-TCS31 is better suited for source components, and even then, the presentation sounds rather soft, not particularly firm sounding for some applications."
You sure were spot on sir. I decided to play around and move some PCs on my system this weekend, I can't believe I didn't try more of what I already had. Took the FP-TCS31 out and used a Flavor 4 on my amp and DAC. Talk about meat on the bones, clarity and slam, it was like a new breath of life came about. The only downside is with both Flavor 4's in place the system can slam but it is not very smooth, a bit rough around the edges.
Keeping the Flavor 4 on the amp and putting the FP-TCS31 regained the smooth sound, female voices so good along with acoustical instruments. Moving to my "torture track for rock" Pink Floyd's Young Lust, my system had all the hit of a wet noodle with the Furutech on the DAC, returning to F4 on the DAC and also still on them amp the system now hits like Babe Ruth, SLAM but rough again!
For now I am keeping the F4 on the amp, and put an old school first gen Audience Power Chord on the DAC, retains most of the slam and smoother than the F4, not a bad sounding combo.
So now I am afraid to get the FP-S55N as I am worried that the shielding my hurt the dynamics.
I am thinking of either the Acoustic Revive or the Nanotech at this point.
Another option I found is there is still a seller here in the US (legit dealer) who has some stock of the Furutech Alpha 3, unshielded in stock.
Any thoughts on these 3?
The unshielded Furutech Alpha 3 is better suited for amplification, and for source components an unshielded power cord is also advisable, since keep in mind the affectation of the shielding is not so much for the benefit of the component its connected to, it's to protect adjacent audio cables and components from EMI radiated from the power cord. For the most part, I avoid shielded power cables since keeping audio cables that are sensitive to EMI away from an unshielded power cord is a better sounding approach.
The sonic effect of the very thin pure copper floating shield of the Acoustic Revive 8800 and the grounded very thin pure copper shield of the Oyaide Black Mamba V2 is so mild, they should not be considered in the same category as a heavy-handed braided shield or aluminum foil shielded power cable tends to produce. I prefer the 8800 vs. the Alpha 3 since Furutech power cords and signal cables are not as impressive as the performance of their connectors.
Aaron, are you using your cables as a way for tone control?
Cougar,
I am not trying to use them as tone controls, but different cables do have different characteristics that will match components and personal tastes differently. The Furutech FP-TCS31 was not a match for my system or music. It is not to say that it is a bad cable, just not for me, but it could be great for someone else based on their components and music taste.
