I'm currently experimenting with cheap interconnect cables from China, just for fun, because I'm bored.
One of the cables I ordered is a thin, braided silver plated wire.
Well, some of you may know that I've been dealing with an intermittent RFI problem, entering the system through the RCA cable between preamp output and active crossover input.
I've been trying many different cables there over the months, trying to solve the problem; so far the "best" I could find was a very short length of VDH D102 balanced cable, with the shield connected at both ends. But even with that cable, I could still hear the RFI in the 104dB speakers.Well, enter the cheap braided cable, I won't comment on its sound quality (it's decent, especially for the price, but not great) but when I put it between preamp and active crossover, the whistling in the tweeters disappears. EUREKA.
I will stop with screened cables, at least there, and will pursue with braided! it's a miracle!

of this braided interconnect is connected only on one side of the cable?

"I know just enough to get into trouble. But not enough to get out of it."
This is why Ray Kimber came up with his braided design, to stop interference problems. If you want a better sounding, quality cable try one of the Kimber offerings since the braided design seems to work for you. Many to choose from depending on price and sound.
