I appreciate the detailed response, especially having had SR cabling in your history.I've taken a look at your profile, and our systems are very different in that mine is a horn-based system. In my own setup, the SRs replaced Zu Mission cables, biwired. The Missions were never intended to be a permanent solution, but I do admit that they were better than I perhaps gave them credit for, the SRs having cost about 8 times as much buying from the used market (the Zus having been purchased from their ebay store at under $100 for each set). It was the combination of the SR speaker cables and SR ICs between the preamp and amp that really made the difference for me, though, so now I'm just looking to tidy up the loose ends, so to speak.
One thing is clear, as Duster pointed out - one size doesn't fit all. I do appreciate the input, though, as I try to analyze the relevant factors involved in your cabling choices vs your system goals. As different as our choices are, it appears that the primary objective is the same - the reality of emotional experience. I'm closer than I've ever been, and it isn't a bad place to be.

Todd A,
You're more than welcome, yet while are systems are different, as someone whom used to work in audio retailing as a buyer, ones job relied upon having developed some form of hearing, as to avoid buying BS on behalf of our shops, not alone have something of interest as a means of introducing our rather selective clientele with options, in which many shops in the tri-country area of Detroit weren't willing to do.
Subjectively change is about ones willingness to grow, learn what works | doesn't....... and then act accordingly. Speaker designs are merely transducers, and said cabling acts as a means of passing the signal from one point to another........, and while some don't seemingly like ( or understand ) silver plated copper | would've us believe it has no place in ones system......, I beg to differ, as Nordost as a company has survived for a reason, it's merely a matter of knowing which types of systems it's primarily intended to reside within, in said case more often than not that should be within a system based upon SET, as a means of offering more attack of notes to what might otherwise come across as overly warm | lacking in said attack | requires a wake up call if you'll......, musicality has no said limitations, it comes down to us knowing which flavors fits our needs | rethink the possibilities and move onwards | outwards without regret.
Life is meant to be lived........, but before one has lived a full life, one must learn to avoid mistakes along the ways that might shorten it, same applies to our systems, get it wrong......., and we look to replace items as opposed to understand just how they're meant to be voiced as a collective whole, which in turn assure long term enjoyment.
Just food for thought.
Actually, I think we're on the same page.
Years ago, I provided technical support to a staff of 20 technicians at an office equipment company, and the two things that drove me nuts were troubleshooting by rote, and placing a parts call without being fairly certain that the part you're ordering will actually fix the problem. If you don't understand how those systems operate in and of themselves, plus how they interact with each other, how can you possibly hope to understand where those processes are breaking down? It's not enough for me to know that something sounds good to me - I want to know why it sounds better than something else to me, and how it interacts with the rest of my system so I can extrapolate that understanding to other areas in my setup. Some people can perhaps afford to just throw money at it until they're happy. I don't happen to be one of them.
I can totally respect said concept.
Yet have to add, once again ideally one needs to understand what type of material wise benefits the speed | tonality | timbre of ones speakers........., I do this by knowing there are times where to much copper throughout ones system, while sounding lovely | spacious | weighty, can also seemingly slowdown transient response, whereas by adding say a pure silver or silver plated pair of IC's | USB cable can restore balance by adding said sense of snap | crackle | pop that might otherwise go unnoticed.
I'm the type that understand what sounds best in my system within 2-3 tracks, and never second guess myself on which is staying put......., more often then not I use the old adage taught by Linn | Naim to some effect which relates to " if it sounds ( feels in my case ) better, it's better " I don't pretend to understand the science behind each brands design, yet do take into account, some companies implementation is better applied then others, even when the same type of metal or plating can be used, some merely pay more attention to said finer details needed to bring out the best in their wares.
I'm not the sort that ask why........, in so much as pay attention to how I respond to each listening session, as my wife Michelle knows all to well " if she doesn't catch me tearing up while listening, the music itself didn't effect me on an emotional level " therefore it never fully communicated to my very core | senses or drew me in.
For me......, it has to be an emotional experience above all else, otherwise why bother at all?, it isn't rocket science, it comes down to feeling the pulse within each | every note as if anew.
