I myself have gone through since switching over from my time in the Linn | Naim camp between 1984-2001, going over first to the entire Harmonic Technologies loom, followed by Acoustic Zen ( 2009-2013 ) followed by Synergistic Research ( late 2013-2014 ) followed then by Crimson Music R.M stuff, onwards to Siltech 90 Series ( both between 2015-2016 ) followed by periods with LDF | Clear Day Audio SCs ( late 2016-2017 ) and finally ending with anything " and I literally mean anything " Jena Labs ( both pure copper | silver plated copper ) and have been very very fortunate to have found | dealt with this company since.
Yet as of late last year, I found myself returning to said Naim camp, and wanted a pair of SCs which were spec'ed closely to Naim's own NAC-A5, and ended up using a pair of Witch Hat Audio Phantoms from the UK, alongside a pair of pure silver ( 5N ) IC's from Argentina, with the Curious USB Cable ( the original pure silver from Australia ) along with the stock Naim AC Cord, as seemingly as it was designed ( actually their equipment was voicing during its development stage ) merely offered a sense of detail | attack | nimbleness which made other power cords come across as dull | sluggish if you'll | lackluster to say the very least.
This to say that........., it took the additional of both the pure silver IC's | USB Cables to lock my system into a place which merely feels | sounds correct, to the point I no longer feel the need to look any further, in my mind one needs to match a certain type of metal, be that pure copper | pure silver | silver plated copper IC's to bring out the best in the driver types in their speakers........., as soft domed tweeters " to my senses need the added speed of silver plated copper as a means of adding speed | greater sense of top end response, which other wise appears to be glossed over, whereas with metal domed or ribbon types seem more responsive to pure silver ( here the actual purity of said silver counts....... so nothing less than 5N, and if the wallet can handle it?, 6-8N is where it ends ) so as Duster stated in slightly different words " there aren't any set rules which are cast in stone " it merely comes down to whether or not, said end user finds themselves moved to tears during listening sessions?, does the music move you on a purely emotional level?, if not?, it's time to readjust ones mindset on the possibility that change is needed here, prior to writing off ones equipment and moving onto a different make, or brand......., there are times where one brand of cabling, much like shoes, where one size doesn't fit all.
My wife Michelle | I are fond of quoting a line from a movie we grew to love to this day from 2000, or thereabouts called " 13 Warrior " where one of the 13 wasn't a Viking, yet sat there night in, day out paying attention to the other 12 speaking amongst themselves........, until one night he responded to one of them making fun of him, and was asked how did you learn our language?, he responded " i listened " which in hindsight is all us mere mortals need to do for ourselves " just listen " therein lies ones truth.
Longwinded me, yet I speak truth only as I hear it.......
Follow Ups:
I appreciate the detailed response, especially having had SR cabling in your history.I've taken a look at your profile, and our systems are very different in that mine is a horn-based system. In my own setup, the SRs replaced Zu Mission cables, biwired. The Missions were never intended to be a permanent solution, but I do admit that they were better than I perhaps gave them credit for, the SRs having cost about 8 times as much buying from the used market (the Zus having been purchased from their ebay store at under $100 for each set). It was the combination of the SR speaker cables and SR ICs between the preamp and amp that really made the difference for me, though, so now I'm just looking to tidy up the loose ends, so to speak.
One thing is clear, as Duster pointed out - one size doesn't fit all. I do appreciate the input, though, as I try to analyze the relevant factors involved in your cabling choices vs your system goals. As different as our choices are, it appears that the primary objective is the same - the reality of emotional experience. I'm closer than I've ever been, and it isn't a bad place to be.

Todd A,
You're more than welcome, yet while are systems are different, as someone whom used to work in audio retailing as a buyer, ones job relied upon having developed some form of hearing, as to avoid buying BS on behalf of our shops, not alone have something of interest as a means of introducing our rather selective clientele with options, in which many shops in the tri-country area of Detroit weren't willing to do.
Subjectively change is about ones willingness to grow, learn what works | doesn't....... and then act accordingly. Speaker designs are merely transducers, and said cabling acts as a means of passing the signal from one point to another........, and while some don't seemingly like ( or understand ) silver plated copper | would've us believe it has no place in ones system......, I beg to differ, as Nordost as a company has survived for a reason, it's merely a matter of knowing which types of systems it's primarily intended to reside within, in said case more often than not that should be within a system based upon SET, as a means of offering more attack of notes to what might otherwise come across as overly warm | lacking in said attack | requires a wake up call if you'll......, musicality has no said limitations, it comes down to us knowing which flavors fits our needs | rethink the possibilities and move onwards | outwards without regret.
Life is meant to be lived........, but before one has lived a full life, one must learn to avoid mistakes along the ways that might shorten it, same applies to our systems, get it wrong......., and we look to replace items as opposed to understand just how they're meant to be voiced as a collective whole, which in turn assure long term enjoyment.
Just food for thought.
Actually, I think we're on the same page.
Years ago, I provided technical support to a staff of 20 technicians at an office equipment company, and the two things that drove me nuts were troubleshooting by rote, and placing a parts call without being fairly certain that the part you're ordering will actually fix the problem. If you don't understand how those systems operate in and of themselves, plus how they interact with each other, how can you possibly hope to understand where those processes are breaking down? It's not enough for me to know that something sounds good to me - I want to know why it sounds better than something else to me, and how it interacts with the rest of my system so I can extrapolate that understanding to other areas in my setup. Some people can perhaps afford to just throw money at it until they're happy. I don't happen to be one of them.
I can totally respect said concept.
Yet have to add, once again ideally one needs to understand what type of material wise benefits the speed | tonality | timbre of ones speakers........., I do this by knowing there are times where to much copper throughout ones system, while sounding lovely | spacious | weighty, can also seemingly slowdown transient response, whereas by adding say a pure silver or silver plated pair of IC's | USB cable can restore balance by adding said sense of snap | crackle | pop that might otherwise go unnoticed.
I'm the type that understand what sounds best in my system within 2-3 tracks, and never second guess myself on which is staying put......., more often then not I use the old adage taught by Linn | Naim to some effect which relates to " if it sounds ( feels in my case ) better, it's better " I don't pretend to understand the science behind each brands design, yet do take into account, some companies implementation is better applied then others, even when the same type of metal or plating can be used, some merely pay more attention to said finer details needed to bring out the best in their wares.
I'm not the sort that ask why........, in so much as pay attention to how I respond to each listening session, as my wife Michelle knows all to well " if she doesn't catch me tearing up while listening, the music itself didn't effect me on an emotional level " therefore it never fully communicated to my very core | senses or drew me in.
For me......, it has to be an emotional experience above all else, otherwise why bother at all?, it isn't rocket science, it comes down to feeling the pulse within each | every note as if anew.
if you've been thru that many different cables. I'm sure the cable
manufacturers love you.
My question has always been this: if you don't like the fi of your hifi,
how do you know where to start making changes? Cables? Tubes? Phono cart?
DAC? Electrical? Room acoustics? Convert from LP to digital or vice
versa?
Nothing's perfect, so find a setup you like and start listening to music.
Isn't that why you have an audio rig in the first place? And spend any
excess funds on concerts and new recordings.
Whether or not you can observe a thing depends upon the theory you use. It is the theory which decides what can be observed. - Albert Einstein
Having worked within the industry at one point of another, one creates certain bonds with others......., and where that fails?, one relies upon discounts through years of having dealt with firms like the Cable Company, where one borrows | listens | knows what's needed within any given system which requires a certain flavor versus another.
I for one fell into the Roy Gregory ( then of Hi-Fi + during early 2000 ) teachings of beginning ones system foundation at the wall | power cords | racks | isolation footers - platforms - devices | cabling loom | room treatment and so on.
In said case I've addressed each | as a result am very very content in just listening of late, as continuous mistakes aren't a option, not when one reaches an age, where they're meant to know better.
