I'd like to thank Jennifer and Andrew for arranging an audition of her Twin 5 Speaker Cables on my behalf, as mentioned earlier I'm trying to finalize the voicing process of my cables as my intent is to merely invest wisely in said cables as a means of enhancing my system as well as listening experience to a point where as I no longer have a urge to seek changes for the sake of slight differences in tonal balance or shadings here or there.
And here's a shout out to Duster, whom is one of the most avid tweaker's I know......., yet one in which I've always seen as spot on as far as his very very insightful recommendations have come to prove worthwhile additions in voicing not only my system components, but by teaching me and many others I'm to assume the various ways of dialing in our systems and ac outlets by understanding the different flavors of how metal plating on connectors as a whole function in regards to tailoring each to compliment ones system in such a manner as to not only create a collective whole, but also a means of correcting tonal, as well as timbre and pitch balance which are all vital as far as allowing a certain emotional connection to the underpinning musicality hidden within the notes themselves......
As both the Twin 5s and said combination of the 40 X 10mm carbon fiber disc and Herbie's Audio Lab Grudgebuster Dots ( black ) have both proven to be very very worthy of any serious music lovers attention......., here again I must stress the point of " music lovers " as there is a distinct difference between these types and those whom are merely fascinated with obtaining merely " Hi-Fi type effects " which in hindsight tends to spotlight certain frequency curves at the expense of simply allowing the signal itself to be passed along as unfiltered as possible.
It's when one begins to understand the relationship between isolating each component from its internal as well as exterior resonance points that a sense of flow seemingly connects more directly with ones core........, yet as it relates to cabling which in itself adds a certain how does one say " coloration " to the signal begin the recordings themselves, it's very very difficult to know what's actually true as to how any given artist had initially intended for their recordings to be not only heard, but felt.
Tonal purity is one of those very seldom discussed issues in most forums as I've noted since becoming active on a more global scale in being a member on sites as far away as England | Hong Kong | Malaysia | Greece | Japan as well as North America, as I tend to believe in order to gain a clearer concept of any given diverse component of interest, one must in fact ask those of its place of origin how they hear it?, after all whom has a better chance of hearing many of these wares which may not ever reach North American shores, more so then its natives!.
Yet said attention to how Jennifer has in fact over the course of many many years voiced her cables to be amongst the most uncolored ones I've heard to date......, and know that I've borrowed my share at many prices as a means of merely wanting to know......., but when it comes to hearing ones music as if heard anew, one has to ask themselves " why haven't felt the notes being played so honestly before now? ".
If we were to seriously look at those whom actually produce their own cabling, and then how they voice them to suit certain types of source or amplification or speakers as a means of correcting tonal balance ( yes, this is an area within the notes which are very vital to me, so forgive me if I've a tendency to overstate it ) but in truth by filtering said balance is in hindsight a coloration itself......., as a more direct sense of hearing music as if reproduced in real time has a sense of spaciousness | beauty | effortlessness to it, one can't help but notice they're in fact listening more and more to their music collections as opposed to dissecting the fidelity of the electronics or speakers.
And while I'd say Jennifer's cables are often overlooked by a great majority of so-called Audiophiles......, where I'm in fact a music lover whom happens to believe the system is merely a means of connecting to the recordings and not the other way around........, as a $400.000 system serves one not if the owner only tends to own and play a very select say 25 disc or LPs over and over and over......., I see this type as a person whom priorities are wrong, and is merely one of those whom seeks status above all else.
It's when one finds themselves faced with a budget of either investing in the same olde favorite of the month type of mindset where one never stops seeking " more " from a component, as opposed to those like myself during my 20s | 30s | 40s whom on an average found themselves going to the record shop between 4-5 times per day in search of music ( vinyl in my case during these periods......, but I'm such you get my drift ) as a music lover I tend to think that once a person actually has gotten out and visited enough audio shops, shows or heard systems in friends homes one should've gained enough insight as to know which type of presentation fits into their concept of how music should be heard | felt and then carry this sense of knowledge with them into how to select components which are capable of moving you to tears......, laughter, the need to dance, reach out to a loved one, remember ones past, present and think of ones choices in the days and hopefully years to come......, a well balanced system is capable of trance fixing ones mind | spirit | core as if setting a place in time where peace knows no bounds.
Well Jennifer's wonderful cable has allowed me not only the chance to hear the essence within the notes, but also have allowed me to reconnect with a world of music where each genre is rendered beautifully......., so much so that I'm not afraid to admit I do find myself crying......., yet as the wife puts it " it's very nice to see you do have a very gentle, human side beneath all that hidden violence of a beast ".
As long as my wife understands as I've gotten older, wiser......., it's things like music and movies where one clearly connects with painful moments within both......, that one gets it.
It's an emotional thang......., either you can relate, or you can't?. In the end, it's how capable ones system is of bringing them a sense of enlightenment which matters most.
I'd like to once again thank Andrew | Jennifer and Duster for all having bought my old ass to a place where contentment has finally settled my once wary mind....., these aren't going back.
Be well,
O_oh
Follow Ups:
Thanks for the kind words, Oscar. Just a note about the Cardas CABE Economy Banana Plug you are using as a spade to banana adapter. Based on my experience, while a banana plug such as that can sound better than a number of inferior designs, especially cheap banana plugs that feature brass leaf springs that tend to sound terrible, a dual banana plug with a solid polymer frame that conforms to the conventional spacing of binding posts is a worthwhile option to consider, since it provides a substantially rigid interface between the two prongs and the two binding post slots that independent banana plugs don't provide.
The Cardas CABD Banana Plug is a dual banana plug featuring a one piece contact design with a tensioner that along with the polymer frame provides a far more rigid interface with the binding post slots vs. the Cardas CABE Economy Banana Plug. Best discount price found is $21 per dual banana; $42 per stereo set from Handmade Electronics, which is a good bargain ($20 off list price for a stereo set).
See link:
Great eye on catching the cheaper Cardas adapters, in fact I did manage to buy a stereo set of them last night. As I'm very aware that Jennifer tends to use Cardas RCA | Banana | Spade connectors on her creations, I'm not about to challenge her ear in how she has selected them as an vital part of voicing her cabling looms in such a unique manner.
I'll then try one on the amps end as well, as they're Cardas pure copper binding post to make certain the distant is correct with the polymer bridge intact, and then buy another stereo set or singles accordingly......
Once again, thanks for your insightful recommendations as always.
I'm sure the entry-level Cardas banana plug sounds good, so I look forward to reading your impressions of the top-line model if you decide to try it.
Since it does not involve solder joints, you should be given full right of return if you are not satisfied with the mechanical function and sonic results.
I've already ordered a set of the more upscaled versions, which I'm to assume will arrive by Monday or Tuesday. Either way......, I intend to leave them intact as I couldn't bear to send them back to be re-terminated as I'm loving their way of rendering music way to much to go back to anything less....
The Cardas CABD dual-banana plug is a classic Cardas-type connector. One piece eutectic brass base metal with rhodium over silver plating will certainly deliver the Cardas house sound, Oscar.
Duster...., as always I've found every single one of your recommendations very worthwhile. So I'd never ever doubt your ears. Thanks again....

I expect the Cardas CABD in combination with Cardas' pure copper binding posts will be a synergistic match, as well.
I look forward to your report if you chose to post one, Oscar. It will be an easy thing to swap-out the connectors for a comparative evaluation session.
As per Duster's recommendation to replace the Cardas Audio CABE, with the more costlier CABD deluxe version has proven very worthwhile.
As I'm now detecting ever greater transient response, with less smearing of notes ( not that it was bad beforehand ) and a clearer sense of spaciousness that was simply glossed over by the cheaper versions......, it's as if the polymer bracing as attracted to each banana plug has in fact offered a better means of controlling the vibration properties due to the looseness of said spring reinforcements from within.
Each note is better defined in time, with an added sense of flow to it which simply wasn't there before.
Once again, this was one of those gray areas to me......, yet as always by placing my trust in Duster, whom has in my book always explored vital areas when it comes to enhancing ones system via various tweaks, has never steered me wrong.
Much praise and kudos earned.....
I'm glad the suggestion was worthwhile, Oscar.
The polymer bracket is implemented in tandem with a solid eutectic brass base metal, with a highly-conductive silver plating, then a very hard-surface rhodium plating for the purpose of George Cardas' connector design concepts. The fact that you are using them with Cardas' pure copper binding posts makes it all happen in a special way, in that the overall synergy is the result of an old school audiophile cable designer with Golden Ears ;-)
Duster,
I'm in total agreement with all that you've said....., as well as your teachings. By all means continue preaching to the masses, hopefully one day others shall understand your shared words?.
Stay true to the cause.
I most certainly have every intention of following this one up....., thanks again Duster.
BTW, keep those cool-looking audio gear photos up and running ;-)
You got it.....
Duster,
You're more then welcome, and as I've always viewed your ventures into tweaks as one of merit. I'll look into said options......, as it stands I've a few Oyaide | Furutech | Furez rhodium plated copper or pure copper type BFA Plugs sitting here. I merely was so happy with the demo pair if these cables, I couldn't stand letting them leave, as Jennifer was going to terminate a pair of them with Cardas Audio Super Banana Plugs, as I'm not much into spades......, but I made the exception due to the fact I can't return to my previous makes hearing how much I was actually missing.
Once again......., I'd like to thank you for being such an out the box thinker, and one whom has willingly shared these concepts on diverse matters with those whom think likewise.
